 Why do people love the idea of being independant, but feel better when they have someone to depend on and love?

True independence comes with confident ability to weather the vagaries of life. That is what people love about independence. It means that they have made the grade, and CAN DO what needs doing. They grew up.
They feel better with another person of similar achievement. Just like rowing a boat. I can do it, and you can do it, but we can do it better together, and with less effort, and get further more quickly.
Ain't it neat?

Excellent post I know I cherish my independence I want that special person to share and blend with me.I don't want him to loose anything nor do I want to loose anything either. I want us both to excel together.

flowerforyou Thank you.
I suppose (assuming that my reactions are normal) that being deeply emotionally involved in a relationship that is pleasant has the effect of dulling one's interest in many things that do not seem essential to the beginning of the relationship. As the love deepens, the bonding grows more deep, and the resurrection of those former interests seems somehow dastardly. It is the assurance in word and deed, from persons like yourself, that frees the mate's spirit to renew their independent pursuits--even with new and greater appreciation.
