Dont ask me, I am watching it now. Scary topic, but understanding can only help the situation.

I was just reading, yesterday, about the arscenic levels in tap water and it's proven connection with many forms of illness, including childhood cancer and diabetes. We are behind the world standards in this area, and the physical effects are statical proof. We can thank Bush for refusing to address the issue when it was presented to him. In fact, in a speech he gave, he made fun of it. Sadder still, those to whom he was speaking, laughed.

I'll say - WOW! The plastic thing, whew. I use plastic 'everything' from keepings foods, freezing foods, heating in the microwavy, not to mention plastic mugs and all the plastic 'wrap'.

Time to rethink this issue.

By the way, I found the website that has the Shopper's guide to Pesticides in Produce.

You can print a wallet size reminder of the best and worst produce. There's also a list you can print or copy about comparisons of almost all produce.

Once again, time to rethink what I thought was a healthy diet.

I'm not a big meat eater, so produce is my mainstay. Fortunately they do have organic sweet bell peppers, but I don't think I can afford it and besides eating them raw, I use them in many dishes. Sigh!!

Intersting bushi, thanks!

Yea and the downside to organics is bacteria from animal based fertilizers.

Dammed if you do dammed if you dont.

Everyone has some kind of measurable containment.

I thought "organic" was also free of fertilizer. Guess I have to research that now too.

By the way I forgot to add the web sit for the best produce to use if not using organic, even though they say organic is better still.

Hey Bushi, I live on Okinawa for a while. The only animals that produced 'fertilizer' were humans. We were warned not to eat the indigenous crops? One farm was not too far from where I lived and if you saw an old guy carrying a yoke with two huge buckets, you moved as far away from him as you could get.

This conversation just reminded me of that experience and wanted to share it.

The only threat I currently know of from organic foods is ecoli. So from the cancer perspective it prob is better, what is interesting is that its impossible to completely remove carcinogens from your diet, due to carbon 14 in every biological living structure.

Ill have to dig up the UC Berkley study I read a long time ago where tests where done to measure all foods including organics for carcinogen levels.

What stood out to me in the study was how various health foods where high in carcinogens, but they where weak carcinogens such as mushrooms and so where very safe even with high yeild of a very weak carcinogen, and thus the multiplier was low for the quantity. However things like coffee where both high in quantity and high in strength so making it a double whammy effect . . . very interesting . . dare I say . . synergy. (for coffee I believe it was the roasting which burns the beans that produces these carcinogens- burnt things are apparently bad to ingest)
