Huckabee pledges to fight tax increases
Agrees to oppose any and all efforts to increase marginal income tax rates Updated: 2:20 p.m. ET March 7, 2007 LITTLE ROCK - Republican Mike Huckabee delivered a no-tax pledge Wednesday to a national activist group in Washington, his campaign said. The former Arkansas governor signed the Presidential Taxpayer Protection Pledge for Americans for Tax Reform after announcing his intentions last week at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference. In signing the pledge, Huckabee agreed to "oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates" for individuals and businesses and to oppose "any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates," according to a Huckabee campaign news release. Huckabee, who formed a presidential exploratory committee in January, has found himself defending his record on taxes, having championed increases for the state's public schools, highways, and natural resources. With the pledge Wednesday, Huckabee said he cut 90 taxes while governor and has been a longtime supporter of ending the estate tax. "It was not difficult to pledge not to raise the income tax rates at the federal level," he said in the news release. See I dont believe this anything more than campaign hogwash, has been a longtime supporter of ending the estate tax. Aint that the wealthy, if someone left me an estate I think I could afford the taxes. This bothers me about him, but he does have some good points!!! |

But do you believe there’s a human role in climate change?
There may be. But whether there is or there isn’t, it doesn’t release us from the responsibility to be good stewards of the environment. It’s the old boy scout rule: you leave your campsite in as good or better shape than how you found it. It’s a spiritual issue. [The earth] belongs to God. I have no right to destroy it. I think we work toward alternative energy sources. [We need to make it] like the Manhattan Project or going to the moon. We need to accelerate our energy independence |

i remember a sense of ambivalence when he took over here...we'd just had
our governor leave, being convicted of crimes... over time, he really proved himself. started the arkids program...a college-training program for low income folks...he's fixed roads, helped our schools... i changed my mind enough that i voted for his re-election. |
