Quick silly question, if a company can restructure and reorganize in less than 2 weeks by filing for bankruptcy, why bail them out?

I don't think we should bail them out, but regardless of what I think, betcha I'll be paying for any decision made.

Why do you refuse the answer?

At GM, pretax base pay is about $40,000 a year.Workers commonly earn $20,000 to $60,000 a year in overtime. Up to around $100 Grand a year.
I mean, come on now. That's a bit gross! Way too much to pay a line of monkeys to watch the computers do all the work.
Why not , from the top down, cut the pay by at least a third.

Why should they have to!

The UAW has been the only ones to compromise on anything in years.

The government lifted the trade tariffs. Before that they were just fine. The American standard of living was higher and the value of the dollar was higher.

We produced our own textiles, electronics, far better quality autos, Steele, etc, etc.
The only ones who benefit from free-trade are the large corp owners.
Americans and America are the ones who suffer.

I just use a little common sense. If I could save my business by living on less, that's what I would do. Actually, I do that when bus. is slow.laugh laugh
They all, wish to maintain their High Hog standard of living and want the Tax Payers to bail' em out.

Your jealous attitude does nothing for America or Americans.

The UAW workers are only paid an avg of 50 cents an hour more than their foreign counterparts here in American factories. Where they recieve a tax-cut from our gov to build here in America.

Of course at home the foreign companies countries provide all the med care their employee's need through social health plans and the cost of living is far less. The Companies don't have to comply with friendly environmental and safety laws either.

Don't see the government or anyone else scratching their heads, trying to figure out how to help mom/pop small businesses out. A lot of small business have closed their doors, lost all their income and personal savings, but guess small business means small importantce.

*willing* what is this common sense you speak of? seems practical and may even seem fair, so this common sense must be wrong.

I'm very content being independent. No jealousy whatever.

I know folks who work GM plants in Mexico. The line workers get Medical, a yearly bonus and $50.00 a week.

And BFD if they average .50 more an hour. If they wanted to really save GM, they'd agree to live on less. But, we all are aware that it's just greed.

Actually, we don't need GM. There are a few other makes of Autos to choose from.

franshade...

You are complaining about small business...

The roots of the problem are the same.

There are small business owners who GM and other big businesses would be able to keep employed if it were not for the outsourcing issues that affect everyone...

Do you not see?

The problem is the same.

Again, BS, we can't afford to let GM fail.laugh Hudson failed. Packard failed. Studebaker failed. We survived.

Here's an idea for Ford
For every GM car traded in to be stored and salvaged for obsolete parts, Ford give, on top of the trade-in, a years supply of gasoline.
