Sorry, was on my way out when posted, but internet security in the hands of DHS..... I see many new problems, and innocent "domestic criminals" on the horizon. Just look at the mess with the airport securities where they harrass and detain 6 yr old boys as terrorists, and "no fly" listed.
We've had verbal guarantees of personal privacy before while enhancing our securities and we have seen those results. I agree we need a more secure and safer internet, but public access controlled by the DHS.... why? |

yes i can agree with that sorta
the dhs can handle govt security (i guess) but the private non govt sector should have the option to use whatever security they wish (can any one say gatekeeper) [was in a movie about internet security] |

You are reading my mind. I see another Blackwater taking place in cyberspace.. Gatekeeper is a very good example of the possibilities it could produce. It could make ID theft look like jaywalking by comparison in the wrong hands. The thing I fear is that soon NO space will be safe for us, even cyber, sold to us in the name of security, but not from any "foreign" enemy or threat.
If we lose our ability to communicate amongst ourselves, voice our views or opinions freely as we do here, I feel the Orwellian reality of 1984 as our future, and very little hope of organizing any resistance against it. With control of the corporations, government, media, military and internet...... We're screwed! ![]() ![]() |

We're screwed! ![]() ![]() Australia has a firewall that blocks access to sites it deems unacceptable as do most ISP's in the UK. One only needs to look at US's past efforts on internet regulation to see how this could go bad. |
