I miss the atmosphere of those days...the mood wasn't so dark...there was hope. Hell, we stopped a war! We felt we could make a difference then. Music wasn't as mean-spirited as some that is popular today. Although I've got to say...there is a lot of great music that has been made since. People weren't so focused on 'Me'...there was more thought to 'We'. I miss those things. I also wonder what happened to the knowledge we had about recreational drugs...how did we miss passing that on to those younger? Most of us knew that putting anything into our veins was not a good idea...where did that message get lost? Maybe I'm just remembering things through a filter of sweet nostalgia.
i miss those days also

The sixties were nicer and more friendly? Really? Ask a black person about it, Civil Rights Act was signed in 1964 prior to that segregation was legal. In the 60's they were still being hosed down and chased by dogs.

You are absolutely right! There was ugliness back then...and it took a concerted effort by people of many colors to change that. Are things the way they should be because of our efforts? No. Not by a long shot, but I can tell you, my racist, sexist, bigoted father is spinning like a top ion his grave at the very thought that a man of color sits in the White House! The civil rights movement was fueled in part by the change of heart and the atmosphere of the 50's and 60's. Thankfully.flowerforyou

You're 32 years old which means you were born in either 1977 or '76. What exactly is it that you know about the sixties? Judging by your post, I'd say not much.

The sixties were many things, but open minded and friendly are not two that come to mind. About the only thing you got right is great music. However even there you mentioned the Grateful Dead in the same sentence as the Beatles. Your musical taste is as good as your historical perspective.

Todays problems actually started in the 60's. With the "if it feels good, do it" and "tune in, turn on and drop out" attitude and it hasn't stopped. The 50's were way better.

Even the fifties were no picnic. Let's see there was war, lynchings, communist witch hunts by the House Un-American Activities Committee, the ever present threat of Nuclear Holocaust etc etc etc.

The U.S.A and the rest of the world has always been a very f*cked up place. The only difference is that nowadays we have disturbing images and news at our very fingertips 24 hours a day.

Maybe the problem is too much information? Most of you seem to think the world was a better place when people were more naive. Maybe you're right, I'm not smart enough to answer that.
