Well my pops always said the younger generations grow up in more diversity and are used to different races. Especially urban areas. So I guess it will keep getting better unless the parents poison their children with prejudice.

"Well my pops always said the younger generations grow up in more diversity and are used to different races. Especially urban areas. So I guess it will keep getting better unless the parents poison their children with prejudice." BC, I agree to an extent, that there definitely is more diversity and that that contributes to better understanding and acceptance. But I grew up as a child of the '60s and I lived in a Los Angeles suburb that was racially mixed, predominantly with a combination of Caucasians and Hispanics. Unless I went to Los Angeles for a doctor's appointment or to the zoo or whatever, in my town (Glendale) it was a very rare thing to see a Black person. I laugh when I think back now at how, when I visited the beach, I used to think all the black people there were visiting from Africa! But anyway...it wasn't until 1970 when we moved to Nashville that I heard the "N" word. Not until that time did I ever hear any derogatory remark like that about a person. I could tell by the way people were saying it that it wasn't a "good" thing, so I asked them what a "n" was. They said a "black person." I was really confused. I said why would you call a person names just because of the color of their skin? I was only 12 years old. Now, I'm almost 49, and I STILL don't "get it."
