If you watched all the way to the end of the film, that's exactly who they were talking about....FOX NEWS! laugh

The funny thing is I spent several weeks in Canada this summer and guess what program you could not get on Canadian Satellite TV? FOX NEWS! laugh

In the last minute or two, this is what is said by the 'joe public' ...

"When anyone preaches disunity, tries to pit one of us against another through class warfare, race hatred or religious intolerance. You know that person seeks to rob us of our freedom and destroy our very lives."

I think at this time it is important to remember this statement. At the current time (and at other times in history) this happens. Individuals and groups use the above means to push their agendas, which hurts the most oppressed groups.

As the cartoon stated, there are individuals from all walks of life that make up this country. There needs to be a sense of community and unity.

Now everyone isn't going to agree, but there needs not be continued oppression of poor, minorities and 'other' religions based on fear and hatred!

*hops off soapbox*

"and that is the secret to american prosperity..."

yeah, willing is gonna like that

well, if it's not capitalism, then there must be something else you think is, so what is it then?

oh it is capitalism....it's not 1945 and times are a changin

Explain this please. What has changed? Why are these different times? How are people so different today then they were in 1945?

Without these questions answered, your comment is a serious fallacy.

Why are these different times, how are people different... well it was 1945 and now it's 2009..
It's complicated and I don't want to banter.. just my own opinion and I worry not if my comments are taken as fallacy on mingle...whoa
so fallacy on..

You see, you cannot answer this question. I stand behind what i say. I know you don't care that this line of thought is a fallacy, but the problem is this line of thinking enslaves you to the world around you.

This was not an attack, but merely the encouragement of seeking knowledge. Until we all do this, America will never be free again.

You say "fallacy on", i say "Don't worry slave, your masters will take care of you."

You may be busy. I work nearly full time, and i'm a full time student in Premed, i can empathize. So i will give you time to contemplate this question i asked; "What is different, and how does it affect our lives/government responsibilities?" Only because i believe you are intelligent and will grow from seeking this answer.

Driven, you cannot force her to go to your school of thought, dang.grumble

What the eff are you talking about. I asked a question. I wanted to know what she thought changed, and how that affects decisions being made.

What is so wrong about getting people to think?

She did not want to be taught and that is how you came off, ie "school of thought" comment. Sorry, if that offended, not meant to.

As for the change you speak of, if you are talking about the politics, probably little has changed since then accept maybe worse. If you are talking about the attitudes, well the fear of communism is no longer a great fear unless you are an uneducated person who only knows the key words, commie, socialist, fascist, etc... to explain any political or social stance you don't agree with. But that isn't really the same fear from that time or maybe it is. I think we have grown socially from that time, more work is needed still but we have made progress.

We have made progress socially. No arguments there.

But there have been changes in politics. Many changes, here in the U.S.

For starters, we are taught in schools that we live in a democracy. This simply isn't true. We live in a democratic REPUBLIC. In fact, Benjamin Franklin was asked "What have you given us?" after the signing of the declaration of independence. His responded "A republic Ma'am, if you can keep it."

Our forefathers didn't believe that democracy should ever rule, because popular vote could decide anything. For instance, minorities could be forced to be everyone's slaves, under a democracy. (Which i know had happened.) But, if you take our constitution, and apply it to America as a whole, you have a balance of power. For starters, the constitution itself is designed as a restraint for the U.S. government. There are lines, rules if you will, which should never be crossed or else we, the people would be at risk for tyranny.

The negative changes are things like our currency, which is blatantly against our constitution (see powers of congress).
