Obama told Paterson not to run for office. To punish him for attacking ACORN.

ALBANY, N.Y. - National Democratic Party leaders have asked Gov. David Paterson to consider withdrawing from the 2010 governor's race, according to two senior New York Democratic advisers.

Both advisers, who are close to the governor, spoke to The Associated Press on Saturday on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak for Paterson. The sources said it was unclear what Paterson would do in response.

The New York Times, which originally reported the request on its Web site, said that it was President Barack Obama who asked Paterson to withdraw.

The New York Times quoted a senior Obama administration official as saying that the proposal that Paterson be asked to step aside came from a White House political adviser but was approved by the president.

“Is there concern about the situation in New York? Absolutely,” The Times quoted a second Obama administration official as saying.

“Has that concern been conveyed to the governor? Yes,” the official told The Times.

The newspaper said that Obama's request was conveyed to Paterson by Rep. Gregory W. Meeks, a Democrat from Queens, N.Y.

Critical office
Party leaders in Washington have become concerned about Paterson's political weakness, believing the governor's office is too important to risk losing, one of the state Democratic advisers told the AP on Saturday.

Paterson spokesman Peter Kauffmann declined comment to the AP on Sunday morning. White House officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

A message about the race was delivered from top national Democrats at a dinner Friday night with Paterson, but it was unclear whether it was at the direction of Obama, one of the advisers said. The Democratic leaders spoke of a concern referred to as the "David Paterson problem," the adviser said.

The request has been in the works for a couple weeks, and the intention was to wait until after the state's primary to deliver it, the other adviser said.

Patrick Gaspard, Obama's political director, was scheduled to meet with the governor on Monday, one of the sources said.

Struggle in governor's office
Obama is scheduled to be in upstate New York that day, when he is expected to deliver a vision of economic revival to students at the Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.

As lieutenant governor, Paterson moved to the governor's office in March 2008 with Eliot Spitzer's resignation amid a prostitution scandal. But in the months since, his popularity has plummeted, and the state's economic situation deteriorated, with job losses mounting and the unemployment rate rising to the highest in 26 years.

Paterson has announced he will seek a full term in the 2010 election.

Very clever to tie Acorn to the political race for midterms in 2010.

Geezuz, nothing short of perfect. Instead of this being about the elections, Obama's opposition gets to pile on more crap about freaking Acorn.

Good job. Well not really, that one was handed to ya.

Jindal blocks non-existent state funding for ACORN.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) is trying to shore up his anti-ACORN bona fides. The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports today that Jindal issued an executive order barring state funds from going to the community organizing group. However, there’s one small kink in Jindal’s plan According to the state’s Division of Administration, no state agencies have existing contracts with ACORN.

Bobby Jindal (R) railed against the stimulus with his fellow republicans, then turned around and took the money. Then passed out checks in his own name, making it look like our tax dollars came directly from him. Oh but that's ok, he's a republican. Lie your *** off, and lie until it's believed even when most of the country knows the truth..

Pawlenty did the same thing here in Minnesota, no funds going to ACORN but he takes credit for cutting of those NON existent funds.. Cracks me up...

Pawlenty did the same thing..ACORN does not receive funding from Minnesota.

Pawlenty Smears Stimulus While His Top Economic Adviser Tours Minnesota Touting Its Success
In an interview yesterday with Bloomberg, Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-MN) gave a blistering speech attacking President Obama, slamming the the stimulus and efforts to reform health care. Pawlenty declared it would be “ludicrous” to think that the Recovery Act is “what pivoted” the economy back to stability. He also said any “fair critique” of Democratic health care legislation includes the argument that “death panels” would make life-or-death treatment decisions.

But as Bloomberg later reported, Pawlenty’s criticisms of the stimulus are at odds with both economists and the statements of Pawlenty’s own economic development director, Dan McElroy. McElroy, Pawlenty’s “point man on jobs and economic development,” leads the Department of Employment and Economic Development. He recently went on a 10 city road show titled “Advancing Economic Prosperity” touting the benefits of the stimulus. Speaking about the positive effects of the stimulus, McElroy said:

“Our goal was to put this money to work as quickly as possible. Communities and job-seekers throughout Minnesota are seeing tangible results from this funding.“

A longtime adviser to the governor, Pawlenty has praised McElroy as, “one of the smartest, most hard-working change-oriented leaders that has come to state government in modern history.” And McElroy isn’t the only Pawlenty official heaping praise upon the stimulus. Pawlenty’s top financial advisor, Tom Hanson, told Minnesota legislators that stimulus funds used to plug the state’s massive budget shortfall would make “all of our lives just a little bit easier.” He added, “The federal money will give us the opportunity to accept federal assistance and push it out into our state, to help as many people as possible.”

Not only is Pawlenty hitching his wagon to the outrageous “death panel” lie being propagated by Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin, but he’s also joining the long line of hypocritical Republicans who try to score political points by knocking the stimulus while claiming credit for its success at home.

Nope, no slight of hand here. slaphead whoa Gotta love those Values Voters...
