So just wondering...you know anybody that has it?
Found out in class last night, the one lady's little girl has it. Which means she is prob carrying it around to class. But she had to leave class early last night because she little girl was not responding to anyone..I really hope she is ok. I would feel so bad if anything happen. This lady has had a rough few months.  It has hit really close to home, at lest 20 cases in my town. about 50 is towns around me. I know the regular flu kills more people but I am still a little worried.

I know the regular flu kills more people but I am still a little worried. I am no flu expert but I read that the Swine flu was killing three times as many people as the regular flu. The percentage of deaths is still very small but I was wondering where you got the idea the regular flu was more deadly? There is another problem in that the Swine flu is not limited to the dead of winter and has not reached it's peak. |

They ran out of H1N1 vaccine in my city and cancelled all vaccine clinics until future notice.
This whole thing is very sad, where is the vaccine

They are saying regular flu is killing an abnormally high number of people this year. My household already had the regular flu this season and it is a very bad strain. Very ill with VERY high fevers.
Mono is going around too. Two friends of mine have kids diagnosed this week. |

Mono is going around too. Two friends of mine have kids diagnosed this week. They have plenty of the regular flu vaccine and everyone (unless allergic) can get this vaccine. The H1N1 is the vaccine that is in shortage. I have not heard anything about mono cases increasing. |

I just checked the CDC site.
They report for last week nation wide. Influenza A 2,959 (99.7%) A (2009 H1N1) 1,549 (52.3%) A (subtyping not performed) 1,368 (46.2%) A (unable to subtype) 40 (1.4%) A (H3) 1 (0.1%) A (H1) 1 (0.1%) Influenza B 9 (0.3%) If regular flu is type B there were only 9 cases reported. Almost all the other cases were h1n1 (swine) or not checked. A whole lot of people, like me, don't go to the doctor with the flu. They just sit home and suffer for three days. I wonder what the percentage of cases are not reported. |

both my kids had it....
no problem... the deaths that are occurring are in a part of the population that normally do not exhibit this severity. "regular" flu usually kills the elderly and infants.... Swine is not killing either(statistically) speaking Some what surprising...to the medical experts.. By the way...the flu rarely kills anyone...it is usually a secondary infection that kills...mostly bacterial pneumonia... So bottom line do not fear...and... keep your lung clear.... |

Nope......I met someone from Kentucky the other day that had the H1N1 strain.....she was down & out for almost 2 weeks and in the hospital. So glad she drove up to NY to let us get it! Geez!!!!!

They are pretty much assuming influenza A is H1N1 now and not bothering to test anymore. If caught in the first 48 hours, it can be treated with Tamiflu or another antiviral which can help cut down the severity of the symptoms and help you get over it faster. But the flu can last 10-14 days. If you miss the 48 hour window for Tamiflu treatment though, you have to ride it out and just treat the symptoms like you would a regular flu.
My granddaughter is 9 and grandson is 5, their school in Oregon has 578 students, 3 weeks ago (On Monday) they had 258 students out sick with the flu and teachers were sick and they ran out of substitute teachers and started to close down schools. Teachers were taking kids temperatures in the classrooms and sending them to the office to have parents called to pick them up if they had a fever. The doctors in their town told the families they did NOT want to see the kids UNLESS they had a fever above 104, had had a fever for more than 5 days or were dehydrated, otherwise said to keep the kids home. |
