It may be another's writing, but the voices in here are many, and yet
together with the writer, you all sound like a harp to me.

Sometimes I wish I knew your voices so your songs would be true in my
head. But I have made them up instead. You all have such beautiful
voices.

Keep singing to me. One day, I will join the strings of the harp. For
now, if you don't mind - I'll just listen.

You are most welcome here Red- to listen and to sing ... whatever is in
your heart to experience and share.

I have discovered that the voices of friends I have heard sound exactly
like they are supposed to (and like I imagined they would in my head).

It is beautiful!

sherry...who is the translation by? for hafiz?

i have several by Daniel Ladinsky...and rumi has to be coleman barks...

some of these i read are very upsetting...translation makes a huge
difference.

so far the hafiz you quote is pretty good but Rumi....i can't even come
in here to read because i get so disturbed...

funny huh? how different people respond...

for me it's a test in tolerance...lmao!!

the rumi texts are completely wrong....dump those translations they
totally miss the point

i have studied rumi all my life....from the persian to the turkish to
the arabic translations...i even have my own personal version i made
when i was 16...before coleman barks

when his version came out i thought rumi had come back.!!!

there is something to be said for ........less is more

WHO WROTE ALL THE MUSIC?

Why is it now
That I come to you like a humble servant
Willing to feed you brilliant words and love
From my own sacred mouth and hands.

Willing to say, “I am sorry,
I am sorry for all your pain”?

It is because when God
Fully revealed Himself in me

I saw that it was Hafiz
Who wrote all the music you have been playing.

I saw it was Hafiz
Who wrote all your notes of sadness,
But also etched and gave you
Every ecstatic wince of joy your face, body
And heart has ever known.

Okay my dear,
You have stumbled enough in the earth’s sweet dance.
You have paid all your dues
Many times.

Now let’s get down to the real reason
Why we sit together and breathe

And begin the laughing, the divine laughing
Like great heroic women
And magnificent
Strong men.

WHY AREN’T WE SCREAMING DRUNKS?

The sun once glimpsed God’s true nature
And has never been the same.

Thus that radiant sphere
Constantly pours its energy
Upon this earth
As does He from behind
The veil.

With a wonderful God like that
Why isn’t everyone a screaming drunk?

Hafiz’s guess is this:

Any thought that you are better or less
Than another man

Quickly
Breaks the wine
Glass.

THE BAG LADY

I am the bag lady in every city,

I have a spot on every street.

My sacks are full of holiness

So I have come to peddle,
To touch your feet.

I give Myself
To Myself on rare occasions because
I am so very shy.

Hafiz, the monarchs of this world
Are but slaves to thee

Since the Beloved took His seat
In your eye.

I am the bag lady in every city.
I am playing divine music in every world.

My sacks are full of holiness.
I am asking,

May I please bow
To you.

THESE BEAUTIFUL LOVE GAMES

Young lovers wisely say,

“Let’s try it from this angle,
Maybe something marvelous will happen,

Maybe three suns and two moons
Will roll out
From a hiding place in the body
Our passion has yet to ignite.”

Old lovers say,
“We can do it one more time,
how about from this longitude
and latitude—

swinging from a rope tied to the ceiling,

maybe a part of God
is still hiding in a corner of your heart
our devotion has yet to reveal.”

Bottom line:

Do not stop playing
These beautiful
Love
Games.

-Hafiz-
