u must go see the tree in rockville center.and look at the skaters. see the windows in the stores with all the beautiful christmas decorations. Go see a broadway play.

I went a few years ago and loved the place. Can't wait to go again if I get the chance. I guarantee that you will see the folloing without noticing... Someone trying to 'ride' or 'wrestle' the wall street bull: I walked past this every day and someone was waving a red coat or similar infront of it. Sidstreet bootleg vendors: My first time in NYC I was accosted so many times with offers of 2 for $5 on cd's of dvd's. It was funny to banter with the sellers. The homeless speaker on the tube: This was a new one for me. As a former outreach worker for the homeless and a frequent traveller on the London underground system, I did not expect a homeless man to be putting on a cabaret show on the green line. The pashmina sellers in Time Square: They're everywhere, I have no idea what material they were using for the pashmina's but it wasn't silk! Nearly every tourist (especially from the UK)is looking up constantly: Guilty as charged here on my first visit. I had never seen building over 10 storeys high let alone the ones in NYC. I'm used to countryside and open spaces, I had neck ache and all my photos seemed to be pointing towards the sky. It's funny to watch though as people have no idea where they are going. So, not so much there in terms of suggestions. However, something different and always good for a quick snap on the camera. G

hah. I'm used to DC, so really tall buildings are not something I see often. That being said, I love getting out of the DC area to visit big cities like that.

Is that DC the state or am I missing something here? Not many big cities have tall buildings over here. I live in the 4th biggest city in England and we only have three what I would call tall buildings by our standards. London probably has the most but only in the city where the banks are.

I will be going for a long weekend next month. I'd like to hear what you guys can recommend there. Places to see, places to eat.. things like that. Last time I was there was about 10 years ago. New York is my home town and I love it and so I will tell you since you asked of many great things and places to go - The Staten Island Ferry, takes you to Staten Island and you see the Statute of Liberty on the New York Harbor, that is also on the way to or from the South Street Seaport, they are within minutes of each other as well as Ground Zero - In the Times Square re their is a Japanese restarant called Sappora, no Sushi all hot foods Japanese style, the food is inexpensive andgood - If you like Indian food CurryinAHurry, on 28th street, always a line, inexpensive and delicious - in Brooklyn an area called Dumbo lots of art galleries as well as Grimaldis, always a line of tourist and the food is superb don't forget the stores - Bergdorf's, Bloomingdales, Saks, just walking along Madison and Fifth at this time of the year will do the trick, Central Park is across the street from Bergdorf wow, you make my mouth water I haven't been home for six months and won't see it for quite a while, HAVE A BALL,,,,,,,,,,,,,,As far as caution, yes be aware of your surroundings, the same is true regardless of where you are, but you will be with family and friends so have a nice time, oh on the way to Dumbo in Brooklyn the tour bus brings you across Brooklyn Bridge, the view is spectacular , Don't leave out SoHo, downtown NY, the village it use to be called, now it's bustling with all the latest stores and shops Neptune

Go see the USS Intrepid, with the airplanes on it and so on..it's awesome. if i remember correctly it's the 76th street (West side) sorry too lazy to google the correct address but going by taxi is the best way.

The DC area, as in Washington DC. Sorry, missed a word. No worries. I like the list that neptune gave. That's pretty much what I did there. Stayed in SoHo and it was fantastic. I think you said in an earlier post that you would not be doing any shows, but the Winter Garden is a pretty nice building inside if you get chance to pop in.

You must wait for those horrifying three hours in line to get to the top of the Empire State building. If for no other reason than because of how hilarious their solution for suicide prevention is if you wanted to jump off and fall to your death... they put inward-facing machetes guarding the whole perimeter of the outside floor so you'd be impaled before you can jump.

eat at the Pax's awesome food....take the red tour bus not the blue one...red one stays out longer.....i am a Yankees fan so i got to go see them but....maybe next time u go u can go to a game..
