I don't make any..just for new years. I would beat myself up for not following through. Now I set realistic goal through out the year..
seems to work better for me that way.

Three things come to mind......
The first was when I was 12-13 yrs old...around that time.
It wasn't new years....it was summer break....I had nothing I needed
to do...too soon for me to work..I had decided not to waste another summer.
I had lined up 6-8 self-help books which I had planned to systematically go through over the summer...and they would improve my life for the better....I had an outline as to what to do each day...

And I made it about 3 days....then my mother knocked on my door one morning, and informed me that she had counted on me helping her with things over the summer. And she essentially knocked me off-line. I just dropped my plan....and had nothing to replace it, because she didn't have a plan, either....she never gave me anything to do....frustrated frustrated

I was a young adult....and the church we attended stated that we should not make new year's resolutions, but rather should make a prayer list.

Somewhat strange, yet I understand that it is important to make something your goal and carry through. And I think that the point was that God has the wisdom to choose what is best for us, and the power to carry it out, whereas we don't always choose wisely, and most of us can't stick to our programs long enough to achieve observable, much less life-changing results...

More than 4 decades later, I realize that I can make all the plans I wish....yet it doesn't matter.

In December, I decided to start each day with prayer, every day for the remainder of my life. I ask Him to do what He Wills for me, and to do whatever is the very best for me that day. Because I have such a limited perspective. He sees the big picture....He sees all of humanity, and He sees Eternity.

I can't see beyond the smudges on my glasses...to put a today's perspective on a centuries-old saying.....

We all have a limited time on planet Earth....and we all build something. Some of what we build will last...most will not. I feel I have wasted decades on this planet, and my desire is now to build something which will last for eternity......
which is why I no longer will make New Year's resolutions....
