I guess the biggest problem Atheism has is that Atheists are, by and large, fearsomely independent and individual in nature and organised groups just don't pick up so well.

It'll be interesting to see if they every start to gain clout in the political world.

I'm not a member, by the way - read the above on being independent as hell :p

Maybe so, but some 14% of Americans call themselves atheists. To put that in perspective, 13% of Americans call themselves black. We atheists need to join together and support the causes we feel are important like the teaching of evolution in schools and keeping creationism out of science classes.

We could be a very powerful lobbying group if we could get ourselves organized. Why should we allow people like Pat Robertson to speak unopposed?
