i don't necessarily agree. i raised my step-daughter from nine on...and
when i got rid of her father, i kept her.

never once have we argued, never once did she back-talk me or treat me
with anything less than respect. i went to the movies with her and her
friends and was always invited to be with her. she lived with me until
she was almost twenty, and i was her labor coach when she gave birth
(even got to cut the cord!) while her biological mother was only allowed
to be in the room for a short period.

if it weren't for hailey, i'm not sure how i would have survived my
divorce...she was an emotional rock for me, the reason i needed to
continue. i HAD to make certain that child had a chance.

i'm fairly certain that every family has a different dynamic, and every
relationship is different. for some, yes...it's difficult. for others,
it's a reason to be.

That depends, are you the step parent? If so then I would tread lightly,
feel your way and make sure you don't make your better half angry.
