About The Cost of War:

To date, $1.05 trillion dollars have been allocated to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The national, state, and local numbers we provide are based on the total approved amounts through the end of Fiscal Year 2010.

These appropriations do not include funds to support the “surge” of 30,000 additional troops to Afghanistan announced by the Obama administration on December 1, 2009. Conservative estimates suggest the surge will cost approximately $30 billion and we anticipate supplemental appropriations for this later in the year. When additional FY2010 war-related amounts are approved, we will adjust the counter so that it reaches the new total at the end of FY2010.

wow.. I wouldn't have imagined that the cost of the wars would have been less than Obama's 2010 budget deficit... Fighting 2 wars since 2003 and comparing that to 1 obama budget deficit kinda puts the debt we are under into perspective..

Thanks for the post..

I'm all for ending the wars. I don't think it's going to help the debt much. Extra money in hands of politicians is just more money they can waste.

It realy all comes down to Bush's responce to 911. Had he treated it like the criminal act it was and not a Pearl Harbor type event we probably would be drowning in red ink and makeing the defence industry fat and happy. Possibly we wouldnt have had the huge spike we had in gas prices. Instability in the middle east allways in the past has led to higher prices.

There is no doubt that the price of oil goes up when you have something of that magnitude going on. I tend to blame the speculators and other financial manipulators for exacerbating the spike in pricing.

At the end of the day, what happened will always be thought of as a mistake. You have to choose between religious fanatics or mobsters. It seems we always get ourselves into those types of decisions and they usually don't turn out very well..

What would Jesus do? The answer seems pretty clear to me. Put an end to war. It breeds nothing but anger, fear, treachery, greed, murder, and destruction. Enough already!
