I am working on an incentive program for our employees at work... And I thought I'd ask you guys what would motivate you?

We currently have:

Monthly Breakfast
Monthly Staff Meeting Lunches
Monthly Office Candy
Annual Summer Picnic
Annual Divali (or Misc)
Annual Christmas Celebration
Annual Christmas Gift Cards
Annual Chinese New Year (or Misc)
Annual Service Awards (5&10 yrs)

I am introducing incentives for:

Writing Newsletter Articles (writing an article for our monthly newsletter. No one contributes and we need more things b/c they complain about what we have so I thought I'd entice them to contribute with gift cards plus points towards the corporate store)

Community Service Days (thinking for team building if groups of people contribute their time to a community service we will supply shirts with our logo for each and some kind of rewards plus points towards the Corporate Store)

Corporate Store Items I've thought of so far:

Hats (Low-Point)
Pens (Low-Point)
Shirts (Mid-Point)
Sweatshirts (Mid-Point)
To start (have to purchase in quantities)

Mid-Point Items
Dinner Certificates
Movie Certificates

High-Point Items
Ipod Nano
Ipad
I-touch

What do you think? What would motivate you?

Your thoughts/ideas are appreciated...flowerforyou

Those all sound good Joy. I used to work at a company that had free fountain soda and ice. Nothing like free Mountain Dew to motivate a geek........flowerforyou

Quick off the cuff ideas:

Everyone loves massages, facials, mani/pedis and the like gift certificates

Bed and Brekkies weekends

Special lunch dates w/ higher ups that said employees don't usually get to spend one on one time w/

Special Sundry Classes

Concert/Sport Tickets

That's what rapid~fired, anyway. Dunno if any of those would be appropriate in your workplace scheme?

Just a thought.......If at the end of the incentive program, there are many, many people walking around with their...Hats, Pens, Shirts and Sweatshirts, and only a very few with the "nice" product. You may find a negative impact.....I have found that a large company get together, that anounces the whole team is responsible for this great get together and meal, music, etc,as a contributing factor to the overall production increase and the whole team is asked to stand and give themselves a hand, then say something on the order of the followning gifts will be given to the team members that gave just a little more effort to achieve the companys goals...They are given the nice gifts all wraped up nice a perrrrrty like.....Just my opinion that hats, pens, and other little thingys may not have the impact that may be desired....

Not critical, just sayin...Do you still like me???flowerforyou flowerforyou

You know I do Mike..

I should give a little background...

They always want logo items..

We do the 5 yr awards with sterling silver stars, clocks, etc with their name and years of service.

The 10 yr award is a large, glass diamond with their name and years of service...

It's a company of "entitled" people that think we're lucky to have them and that they deserve whatever they want up to taking things off other peoples desks...

Regardless the owners rarely let anyone go and one of my jobs is to motivate them to work productively and make less mistakes on code delivery...

Unless the hoodies and hats didn't have the stupid corporate logo. You could get different sports teams. That would be kinda cool.....smokin

I've always respected companies that see the value of providing in~house yoga and other exercise options ...

Studies show increased productivity and less sick days directly correlate!

The massive non-profit I worked for last, would throw a HUGE employee appreciation day to drag the family too. Tons of food, games yada yada. No liquor because they were religious in nature. But all the same .. attemped fun times.

Call me a corporate snob, but honestly .. I would have LOVED the day OFF to spend with my OWN family instead. Not to spend with all my colleagues that I already saw every day.

Just sayin ..

Now that makes your job much more interesting.... Corperate gives that job to you and leave the people out of the equation??? Just thinking of you now....To show corperate the errors of their way, a suggestion to involve the workers in the parties, gifts, etc, that they "believe" they should get for producing less mistakes... You would be surprized at how little they will ask for if they know they had a hand in choosing their prize if you will....And corperate looks at you as the team builder, moral booster....I took Dale Carniges courses over the years, but found that the Japanese Model had some of the best solutions to greatly motivate the workers.

Judyflowerforyou We do that with our annual picnic and our holiday celebration is sometimes family, sometimes just employees...

I'm also trying to work on team building incentives.. There are so many people that don't talk to each other, are rude or departments thinking only they exist.. I have a lot of things to fix, some of these people are just onery...

Mike it's a far different culture than we're used to... They don't think they make mistakes even when you show them... They don't want to take the time to plan a party they only want to complain about it if it's not what they like.. Believe me I've tried that route too...

aaaaaaah .. how bout a day out on the ropes .. ie outdoor bonding with rope climbing etc .. get them to have to connect with and have to depend on with each other.

Our off-site retreats were always fun

that's a good idea Judy... I wonder if they'd do that.. One of the owners wants to start a bowling league but I'm not sure we'd get enough people that would want to do it...

You gave me an idea though... Have a sign up sheet and see how many want to and if not enough then nix it if enough then do it..

The concert tickets and spa passes that Kate mentioned are a great idea I think. Different things that people can use or go do outside of work. Local sporting events, the latest up and coming band in town...
When I was in Seattle 27 years ago I got tickets to see the Seahawks as an incentive..it was the first time I saw a live game, still memorable today. As an employee working for incentives and as a manager at one time giving the incentives, I think those are the most motivational. And having options, not a one size fits all. Some may want a spa pass, another the game, and another the concert.
Getting pens and hats never did it for me or my team so I agree with Mike on that...they are a great idea for your employees to have as a sense of pride, but not as much as an incentive. More a gift from you to them to show your appreciation..if that makes sense.
