If you remember the first time Obama said don't goto Las Vegas and told businesses not to take their conventions there, well totals have finally came in. Over 100 million dollars in revinue were lost after over 400 events were canceled after that speech. Hundreds of jobs were lost and some places are even in severe financial trouble.

That doesn't include the second time he said it. It's funny in the past 8 months Obama has held two MAJOR campaign fundraisers here in Las Vegas, so it's ok to take our money but not ok to come here or spend it here? I am sick and tired of this a$$hat.

Here's a good video of the entertainment industry fighting back including Governor Gibbons R. NV and Mr. Las Vegas himself Wayne Newton (Don't expect a campaign contribution from him anytime soon Mr. Hussein, big loss too, he used to be a huge Liberal donor). Also there was some major comedian intervied but I didn't catch his name.

Check out the video here.

President Obama today offered up a mea culpa that many residents here were hoping for -- he loves Las Vegas.

"Let me set the record straight: I love Vegas," Obama said during a speech to the city's Chamber of Commerce. "There you go. Always have. I love Vegas."

Obama's endorsement of Sin City was in response to the uncharacteristic chilly reception he received from local politicians, business leaders and residents who took offense at his recent comments that Las Vegas is a place of excess and overindulgence when Americans should be tightening their belts.

Trying to warm up the crowd, Obama joked that a lucky hand Thursday night helped with the nation's economic woes.

"Just last night I drew a flush on the river and cut the budget deficit in half," he said to laughter.

Obama acknowledged that while his comments stung local residents and workers, including some seated before him, he did not mean it as a slam against Las Vegas.

"That doesn't mean I don't love Vegas," the president said. "It wasn't meant to be a shot."

Yet Obama reiterated his original point -- "I think everybody here would agree that the only place where people should spend their college savings is in college," he said. " There's no contradiction there."

Obama said that Las Vegas has been at "the eye of the storm" in these tough economic times.

"When the economy suffers, the tourism industry is deeply affected," he said. "In fact, you've seen perhaps the steepest drop in tourism in the state's history. And I know things are starting to bounce back, but it's tough go."

Obama put his own spin on a famous Vegas slogan and noted that "what happens in Vegas reflects what's happening across America."

Obama's Sin City slams made for a chilly welcome this week.

The most recent diss came when Obama was speaking on the subject of spending cuts to reduce the federal deficit at a town hall-style meeting in Nashua N.H. The president said it's time for lawmakers to scale back, just like working families on a budget.

"Responsible families don't do their budgets the way the federal government does. Right? When times are tough, you tighten your belts," Obama said, "You don't blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college. You prioritize. You make tough choices. It's time your government did the same."

The crowd in Nashua, N.H., applauded but Las Vegas Oscar Goodman mayor was irate. That's because almost exactly one year ago, the president used the city in a similar analogy, when he spoke about excess on Wall Street to a crowd in Elkhart, Ind.

"You are not going to be able to give out these big bonuses until you pay taxpayers back," Obama said last year.

"You can't get corporate jets. You can't go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayers' dime. There's got to be some accountability and some responsibility."

Goodman not only skipped the airport when the president arrived Thursday night, he also turned down a White House invitation to personally meet with Obama.

"I have told some folks who have asked under what terms I would meet and I said, 'If he calls me and indicates he will rectify the situation,'" the mayor said at his weekly news conference Thursday afternoon, "and buys me a martini, then I would certainly honor that request."

Obama Vs. Vegas, Round Two

Feb 3 2010, 10:23 AM ET | Comment
Last year, during a town-hall event in Elkhart, Indiana, President Obama ruffled some Nevadan feathers by warning that bailed out executives shouldn't go to Las Vegas for retreats; yesterday, he was at it again, telling his audience at an event in New Hampshire that, during a recession, "you don't blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you're trying to save for college."

Here's the full quote, from the White House transcript:

Responsible families don't do their budgets the way the federal government does. Right? When times are tough, you tighten your belts. You don't go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don't blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college. You prioritize. You make tough choices. It's time your government did the same. (Applause.)

Except that blown gambling money is good for Vegas, and for Nevada's state revenues...and for the embattled Senate majority leader, Harry Reid (D-NV), who is facing a dismal reelection picture back home.

After Obama's first Vegas jab, about a year ago, Mayor Oscar Goodman (D) demanded an apology, and Reid reassured everyone in a Senate floor speech that he had spoken with Rahm Emanuel about it, and that the comments were more about executives than Vegas...then Reid proceeded to trumpet low Vegas hotel rates in the Senate chamber.

Now, Goodman (who has since left the Democratic Party to become an independent) is all over Obama again, saying that "an apology won't be acceptable this time...

"I want to assure you when he comes I will do everything I can to give him the boot back to Washington and to visit his failures back there," Goodman said. Obama will reportedly campaign for Reid in Nevada this month.

Reid, meanwhile, stuck up for his home state, issuing a statement that he had asked the president to "lay off" Vegas.

Obama offered a semi-apology to Reid, in the form of a letter saying:

I hope you know that during my Town Hall today, I wasn't saying anything negative about Las Vegas. I was making the simple point that families use vacation dollars, not college tuition money, to have fun. There is no place better to have fun than Vegas, one of our country's great destinations. I have always enjoyed my visits, look forward to visiting in a few weeks, and hope folks will visit in record numbers this year.

Such are the trappings of constituent politics.

Obama to Vegas spender at town hall: 'We like to see that'
By Jordan Fabian - 02/19/10 02:32 PM ET

After he said earlier this month that people should not "blow a bunch of cash in Vegas," President Barack Obama on Friday commended a man at his Nevada town hall who "spen[t] money in Vegas."

The president's remark at a New Hampshire town hall on Feb. 2 got him into hot water with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, especially because it was the second time he made such comments.

But Obama took a different tack on Friday.

During a question-and-answer session at a Henderson, Nev., town hall, he asked a man in the audience, "Are you spending some money here in Vegas?"

The man responded "Yes, sir."

"All right, we like to see that," Obama responded.

Obama wrote a letter to Reid explaining his comment in New Hampshire after Reid asked the president to "lay off Las Vegas." The president said he did not mean to denigrate the city known for its gambling casinos.

Goodman demanded that Obama apologize, but the president has not addressed that request. As a result, Goodman denied an invitation to meet with the president, who spoke at a private fundraiser for Reid in Vegas on Thursday.

Obama originally said, "When times are tough, you tighten your belts ... You don’t go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don’t blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you’re trying to save for college."

The president also targeted Las Vegas last February at a town hall in Elkhart, Ind., when he was asked about corporate responsibility.

"You can't get corporate jets. You can't go take that trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayers' dime," he said.

Vegas jokes are a sensitive subject for Nevada leaders because the city's tourism and casino industry is an integral part of the state's economy. Obama referred to the issue several times, saying that as the economy improves, so will tourism.

"They come to Vegas, [the] tourism industry starts taking off," Obama said, garnering a round of applause.

and,, common sense is not so common,,,, if only the public in general were THAT mesmerized by a presidents opinions..

other OBama quotes
'The thing about hip-hop today is it's smart, it's insightful. The way they can communicate a complex message in a very short space is remarkable (wonder if that increased hip hop sales?)'

'We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK. That's not leadership. That's not going to happen. ' (wonder if that made people stop buying SUVs or heating their homes?)

Those "CANCELLATIONS' could very well be many of those corporations who were using corporate funds to come to vegas and PARTY,,

and

just like the common attitude about losing business to illegal immigrants,,,,,

we recovered so good riddance

We recovered? Tell that to the people who lost their jobs to Mr. Hussein. I hear about it, they call in everyday to tell us about their frustration on how they can't support their families or pay their bills because of how reckless Mr. Hussein is.

I work in this, you guys have no idea.

We live in it...we have children to feed, we do GET IT!

I've been to Vegas, many times. It's a blast, a make believe little adult paradise...honestly I can't help but think of the starving who could eat just from the energy saved by shutting off a few lights now and again... is all extremely wasteful.

Wasteful? Do you know how many people have jobs across the USA because of the gaming industry here in Nevada? Not to mention Las Vegas is a great family destination. It is a good place to go to relieve your stress. Not to mention all the money the Government rakes in on the casino tax the casino's have to pay.

Yeah..I've been there..many times. Really wouldn't call it a family destination though. When the lights can be seen from space..yes, I would say that's a bit extreme.

They also show aliens on Youtube...

I see aliens on a daily basis and I will continue to see them until the federal government does it's job and enforce the laws that are on the books. I don't need to go onto Youtube to see that.

That was the Speech Mr. Hussein gave 3 months AFTER the speech telling people to not goto Vegas. Once again you post biased information. You know nothing, I have seen the stats, infact I have them at the office.

You need to give up.

He didn't say what you are implying.

Prove that he said what you are implying and it has to be more reliable than Utube.

I posted what he said in my articles.

Believing Fox will be your down fall.

Just saying; facts that come from Youtube are a lot like facts that come from Fox News...questionable at best.
