On Sept. 18, 2009, the Oregon Department of Education announced that the number of homeless students in Oregon public schools during the 2008-2009 school year totaled 18,059 students statewide. That was a 14 percent increase from the previous year, and a 122 percent increase since Oregon schools began tracking homeless students in 2003-04.
If you are concerned about the increasing number of homeless children, youth, and families in the state of Oregon, please plan to attend the statewide Interfaith Summit on Homeless Children, Youth, and Families. It will be held in Salem at First United Methodist Church on Thursday, June 24, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information email Kevin Finney, or call 503-221-1054 x204.
