Congratulations to Team Spain. The game was incredibly uninteresting, though. I am not crying sour grape, I am Hungarian and I was rooting for Spain. But I turned off the set mid-game. If it was just boring, fine. But the players were doing outright cruel things to those of the opposing team. This was angering me. In the first period, for most of it, there was no action for longer than 2-3 minutes. A free kick a free kick, a free kick. Someone always kicked a player. Often the play was stopped every thirty seconds. It angered me.

In the time I watched the game, the referee was good. He handled out a few yellow cards, to make the players calm down and not be violently unruly. It did not work. The angry faces, the lips reading the "f..." word... some players got a yellow card only because they lipped the referee. That's stupidity beyond reason, on the players' part.

And it did not work. Any other two teams would have realized that this is not primal scream therapy, this is not "test the referee", because we all know his past... this is a game to be won, and that was the least on the minds of the players, as it looked from where I was sitting.

Then in the second period... the passes were incomplete, and there was a good three-minute time segment in which a team was passing the ball to itself, in mid-field, and they were not charging, and the other team let them diddle like that.

I did not pay to see this stupid boring bul**hit, I said. I had enough. Is this world class soccer? My grandson in grade three plays a more aggressive game, his soul seems to be in it much more than the same of those tired monkeys in the world cup final.

This is not world-class soccer, I said. It is a big ugly joke for a sports event that's supposed to be the world's most precious one.

I got seriously angry and turned off the set.
