As I feel this probably applies to quite a few people on this site, I just wanted to see what people expect when they meet someone online. If you meet someone here and they are not local, do you keep your options open until you do meet? Or do you feel that you "owe" it to the other person to wait until you meet and decided if you want to be exclusive or not?

Personally I would feel I would "owe" it to that person to see what happens. Doesn't mean I don't make friends along the way. But I would not be looking for anything else.

It depends, I suppose if you felt a good connection with someone that is distant you may want to wait but if you meet /talk to someone else local it wouldn't hurt to meet & see.

I expect to be disappointed, lied to, and possibly physically endangered, although not necessarily in that order.

Hey, Pats, the last person I met from a dating site was in 2006 -- AND I'M STILL ALIVE TODAY! -- see, there has to be a connection....!

I expect to meet a green hippo that talks out his butt. I figure anything's gotta be better than that so I won't be disappointed no matter what.

Of course, this assumes I would actually expect to meet somebody that talked to me online. They usually flee after a few conversations and before the meeting in real life thing has a chance to materialize. ohwell

No expectations is my usual policy when dating period.

As to your question, long distance romances are difficult and I would want both of us to leave our options open because of the distance.

Doubt I would set limits on my life for someone until we had gotten to know one another, met and decided together on enjoying an exclusive relationship with one another.

That's why I always preferred to meet people through other people I already knew -- THEY weren't going to fix me up with an arsonist, etc.

Wow. That is a great question. I would say if you going to make a long trip cover all your bases. Prepare for the worse. Don't do like I did one time and run off halfcocked. I mean when you put your feet off the bed you just naturally expect the floor to be there. It can be different with dating. Heck, you may be surprised. I am so glad I had a home to go back to. May it ever be so humble there is no place like home.

I agree, the bigger your social circle the better chances you have of meeting someone, that's how it has always worked for me.
