I have lifted and I had utilized body weight exercise. Usually when I do one I have not done the other. One got me bigger and feeling broken. The other got me results that with significantly less pain and effort. What are your thoughts, pro or con on the idea of Body weight exercise?

I was VERY successful with body weight exercises last year when I was getting ready to be in my best friends wedding. Seemed more fun to me as well. (Need to get back on that grumble)

One of the best ways to lose weight and get toned. I dont think it works as well for gaining mass....but it all depends on what your golas are.

I lost 15 lbs in one month on nothing but cardio and body weight exercises. You can almost even see a 6 pack poking through. Thats with out dieting.

I agree with Mayhem - cardio and body-weight exercises are probably the quickest and most fun way to lose weight.

Great for toning, but unless you use added weight it's hard to bulk up.

Regardless, I've always found these types of exercises to be the most fun.

So why do many people shun and/or fear bodyweight exersise when there are so many benifits that come with it?

I had no clue bodyweight exercise was used extensively. The gyms that I went too, I almost never saw anyone hop on a pull up bar. I did see some knock out some pushups to finish a chest routine. Perhaps they do their homework (as in they do bodyweight exercises at home).

If you can get from one end to the other eight times without using anything but your arms - you win. Awesome exercise that can be done anywhere there's a school.

I am still doing my Pull up/Push up piramid routine with sucsess. Last time I did pullups for reps I did 29 on a tree limb and that was over the 4th of July Holiday weekend.
