What does it mean to be a "Big Brother"?

Depends on the context, environment, and social surrounding.

However, typically; a guide, or someone to look up too, a friend.

How are things Death?

Go big.
We’re always looking for people eager to positively impact a child and improve their community at the same time. And, right now is no different. Big Brothers are in high demand. So, Start Something.

For a few hours, a couple times a month, you can give a Little the invaluable gift of your friendship. By simply changing their perspective of what the world can offer, you can literally start changing their lives. And sometimes it’s as simple as playing video games, going to a museum, or just hanging out together.

Why do we need Big Brothers?
More than 70% of our children waiting for a Big are boys, but only 3 out of every 10 inquiries to volunteer come from men. Research shows that having the positive influence of a Big Brother makes a real difference in a boy's life. So join the hundreds of thousands of volunteers that give a young person someone to look up to. And learn why so many are now saying, “I get back so much more than I give.”

A call to men of color.
Disproportionately the children we serve and those waiting to be matched are African-American and Hispanic boys. Their parents seek our support, knowing a Big Brother can recognize their son's potential and model positive choices that put him on the path for success in and out of school.

But don’t just take it from us. Check out some Real Life Stories of Bigs & Littles right here. And if you still have questions, head over to our Big Brother FAQs for more answers.

Hello Everyone ^^

Im ok, thanx for asking

How are you?

Interesting answers
I like Pats a alot ^^"

Im sry by the way...I wasnt really clear, I meant big brother as in having a younger brother (sibling)

I was outside and couldnt help but notice a small family, and I was watching two brothers, and relized...I never done any of those things, then thought on it since....

Im a middle Child, I kind of felt like the Little brother all the time...but made me question if I was ever a "Big brother" or just someone in the family..

Good to hear you're okay, Death. I'm doing pretty decently right now, thank you, mate.

Depends on what you think, really. And it comes down to mainly environment, family relationship, all of that fun stuff. Really, I guess it kind of comes down to how you feel about it. Not an easy question to answer, friend.

DT I think it means different things to differnt people.

I had a big brother growning up and he always got to do the cool things first. Drive, go out ect. He was the one with the cool music we would listen to. He was also the one that antagonized the crap out of me. But in turn I got to antagonize the crap out of the younger siblings.

I learned a lot from my older brother and miss him now that he is gone.

My dearest bro was my ALL TIME hero, protector, teacher, play mate, confidant and best friend ...

My other big bro was my first and worst bully from H!ll on Earth ... ohwell ... Really damaged me ...

I am such a 'guy', more than 'girl', from havin' all bros, most my bestest friends are men ... A pattern for these many decades now ...

I just 'get' guys soooooo much more ...

The only best friends I have that are women, usually had all bros and are tomboys in kind ...

I just can't do the catty, scratch other women's eyes out chicas ...

They leave a terrible aftertaste and litter box odour ... I'll never get them, never want to ...

That is not your fault. I am sure that half of my younger siblings would rather chuck rocks at me than think of all the times I tried to be a good role model for them.

I find that is a common burden the elder is sadly forced to often carry ...

Sorta the whole 'no good deed goes unpunished' adage, rather than due respect!

Im just not a good big brother then ^^"

I never was one to hit on him...

He was the one that broke all my toys when I was younger...but still didnt hit him (most of the time)

but I did almost break his neck once....My mother got really mad...I was punished for a long time..

Well, it was an accident, right?

Dang, all kids almost break/kill one another at some point ... common ground to all!

I wouldn't sweat it and let it haunt ya ...

Maybe y'all just don't vibe together?

As you make your way in life, there will be other brothers you choose that you DO resonate w/!

Friends are the family we didn't get, hand picked ...

Yeah, that's pretty much a brother. I think anything else would be some kind of unnatural Mormon love.

I don't know what it's like to BE a big brother...and after raising 3 boys I'm still not sure. I do know that when push comes to shove my oldest boy would do anything and I mean ANYTHING to help his little brothers. Then there's the game playing, punching, name calling such as "fag" and the crudeness like "suck my Dick ya fag" and farting on each other.

Over all, I think they love each other....
