lol,, sex is in the mind hon,, gender is something we are socially molded to consider in our relationships, but trust me, gender has little to do with the capacity to love or to be sexually satisifed by another

its a choice like any other and if they dont choose to, there is no need to question why anymore than questioning why some people choose to eat red meat and others dont,,,

I disagree. I never chose to be straight. Its just how I was born.

And I know a few women that are gay, and that that they never were attracted to men, just the way they were born.

It is what it is.

of course you chose,, once you state it, you claim it

because 'attraction' is more than just a chemical physiological state

it is also an emotional one and an intellectual one, but we close ourself off to the possibilities by CLAIMING attraction based strictly in gender,,,,,we have many things we are 'more prone' to, but society very much influences the end product and EVERYTHING in between is a choice that comes from somewhere inside of us,,,

But seriously, no one is really sure why people are born the way they are but they do think it has something to do with chemicals produced in the womb. This causes switches to be turned that shouldn't be and some turned off that shouldn't be.

they arent sure why some people turn into serial killers or why some people turn into rapists, there are many who feel these things are HARDWIRED tendencies.

I am of the school of thought that nothing is HARDWIRED, ie, unchangable, in the human mind. I do believe somethings are preprogrammed as TENDENCIES,,ie things we are MORE likely than others to feel or have talents in, but it is nothing on its own without SOCIAL influence to either make it secure and concrete or distinguish it.

My opinion. There is nothing in our heads to direct our actions and proclivities except the brain, which is a physical thing. Change the chemistry or the structure and you change the personality. It doesn't matter whether the influence happens in the womb or in the genes or from the environment. The personality is real. It is what it is.

I agree, everything changes us, we are a work in progress until the day we die,,,,,

One of my daughters is gay, the other is straight.....they were both brought up the same way, taught the same way, treated the same way, etc. One has always looked at girls (actresses, singers) and made comments on them since the time she was old enough to tell the difference between male and female. The other has been so boy-crazy that at the age of six, I was wondering where I could get her fitted for a chastity belt.

Homosexuality and lesbianism is not a choice, do you honestly think someone would CHOOSE to be the target of such discrimination and hatred???? Discrimination that has caused so many young people to take their own lives?????

And as for "once you state it, you claim it"....I worked with a man who was gay but got married and had a family because he wanted so desperately wanted to be "normal" but he was so unhappy, the only time he would smile and laugh was when he was at work because we didn't care one way or the other. He was just "Gary-poppa" and we all loved him.

no two children, even in the same household, have duplicate life experiences

the moment we learn that gender(physical attributes) is how we define 'attraction', we lose our objective ability to be attracted to anything other than what we claim attraction to in our own mind

ever watched 'what about miriam', with all those STRAIGHT men attracted to a man who APPEARED to be a woman

attraction is very complicated and occurs on many levels, if our minds allow it to,,,

but our minds, thanx to culture, says to us 'this is(insert gender), I am not attracted to it' and nothing else gets past,,,

in any case, there is nothing wrong with choosing either, to each their own

he wanted so desperately wanted to be "normal"
People say that homosexuality is "abnormal". What would NOT be normal would be if there were no gay people. As far as I know the accepted rate has always been around 10%. My guess is that the actual rate is much higher.

are we basing normal on whatever seems to have ALWAYS happened?

that would pretty much make everything normal though...

with the only true modifiers being 'abnormally high incidence' or 'abnormally low incidence' wouldnt it?think think
