Peaceful


They stood by the window
in awe of the blanket
that seemed to cover
virtually everything in sight

The childhood chatter of snowmen and angels
played to the melody
of flickering flames
emanating from the fireplace

The aroma of coffee and hot chocolate
served as a minor distraction
to what was sure to become
a day of cold
but joyous bliss

We all got dressed
with boots and heavy coats
and headed into the front yard
there was laughter
as we rolled one small snowball
into a larger snowball which was followed by another
and then another
until the snowman was ready

Plop

I turned around
and then second snowball
hit me too
plop
plop
the fight was now on

The wind danced a bit
with lingering flurries
swirling around . . . and today,
well today
there were no worries
just a runny nose or two
and the world just seemed
peaceful

only thing missing were the snow angels!! love that childhood memory, actually, it's not just for childhoods... :)
