yes, we dont use that language in our family, especially around elders,,,

i don't understand the whole censoring oneself at home.
i especially don't understand the whole respecting your elders thing.
seems pretentious in my opinion.

because things we do at home, ESPECIALLY as children , start to seem 'normal' to us so that it becomes harder to control them outside of the home,, its not helpful to put children in that position

it takes no more effort to be disrespectful than it does to be respectful, so why not teach children to chose the latter

because choosing the former will get them into alot more trouble when they are grown and expected to know better

we have no desire to use the language so we dont, I dont consider it censorship

but if someone just YEARNS to use that language,, than I guess they will do what they want until it has consequences that they dont enjoy so much,,,

You put that quite succinctly.

i still don't understand what the consequences from such language are.
i use it all the time.
am i some horrible disrespectful person for using it?
i think not.

adding what wasnt said

nothing to do with being 'horrible'

I would put it like this 'there is a time and place for everything, and everything has its time and place'

which means there are few things that will be appropriate or even productive in EVERY environment,, such language is one of those things

the fact that it makes someone 'laugh' implies to me that they understand that it is not appropriate,, appropriate things rarely make us laugh

so the choice to do what is inappropriate seems like a desire to be disruptive to an environment, something I Dont choose to teach my children,,,,

so if i say ****,
my purpose is to be disruptive?
language is simply a means of expression.
certain words aren't disruptive just because you don't like them.
i could be disruptive using words you do like.
a;sdj,xvbaskdjf.
bleh.
i'm just saying this because it seems as if you think using such language is a horrible thing.
i mean you even say there will be consequences we won't enjoy.
i have yet to see such consequences.

Well, just like I wouldnt teach my kids to get used to speaking french in an english speaking country

I wouldnt teach my kids to get used to 'slang' speaking in a country where that speech is completely unproductive and professionally and educationally speaking is counter productive...

as I said, you are fortunate

my kids have just asked questions of certain teachers and were marked negatively for it, so Im sure such language would cause them pretty severe disenfranchisement,,,

even better.

would you get mad if i taught your kid to say i need to go take a crap instead of saying i need to go to the bathroom?

My boys say that now and I really don't know where they heard it.
Only it's.. " i gotta take a S hit!"
and I don't care at all

people choose to be offended by 'swearing'
their just words and most 'swear' words
have really, really, really stupid meanings!

peopleoids will smack their kids around and justify that
but holy shitski, don't say a bad word around them, might scar
them for life!

whoa

The pen is mightier than the sword. Meaning: words are powerful. It does matter which words you choose. It does matter which words you teach your children to use. IMO.

I just think that not everyone seeks to have their kids be their 'entertainment'

its one things what kids pick up elsewhere because parents can only oversee that so far

but its another what parents choose to SUPPORT and ENCOURAGE at home,,,

sure words can hurt others,
but what's so wrong about using it in a very simple statement?
it's not hurting anyone.
and entertainment isn't the purpose.
she's just being informative.
you can't censor another human being for the rest of his or her life.
might as well teach them how to use it in ways that won't hurt others.

To me it's more the meaning behind the word, not the word itself. If someone is saying: "I think you're a piece of crap" than yeah that's wrong. But if you're using it in another context, I see nothing wrong with it at all.

My grandma sometimes will get mad at me if I use the term bull**** in reference to something I don't agree with. To me it's like: Hey I call it as I see it, and that's how I choose to describe what it is. I don't see why I should have to apologize for it, or why it's so bad for.

People should focus more on HOW something is being said, not whether something is being said at all. The things we choose to get uptight about.........
