Most of us will always stop, because there isn't anything much cooler than industrious kids involved in a project.....Even if the lemonade sucks LMAO!

If these kids asked your advice about business, manners, (so called "Adult" interaction)...What would you tell them?

(Remember..they are KIDS....so no sarcastic poison...they'll get that soon enough on they're own)

I would advise them to save and divide
their earned lemonade money into 3 parts.
One part, to buy things for others.
One part to spend on themselves.
And one part to save.
Rainy days and all that :-)

Way before they need to learn the math of reproduction they need to learn the hunger of working. The desire to do something is number 1. It's what separates the entrepreneur from the employee. Employees never understand employers. If they did they to would be employers.

Too many kids grow up never having a concept of doing something that is fun and productive and turning it into their career. To me this is sad. I personally never went through the "get out of my house" syndrome that I saw kids go through. I was out on a professional level way before I finished school.

Mmmm, the 'saving' part could go right into a
college fund, to be matched by the other
members of the family without their own stand.

 I suppose it IS a bit much to ask a 7-11yo to "diversify"?

I think that would depend upon whether their
portfolio is bigger, or smaller than yours.

I'm not running for office here (the crowd cheers for that one) but I think we are now experiencing a couple of generations in our country where work is treated like the enemy instead of a passion toward excellence. We live separate lives from our work as if it was the evil one. I have never, and never care to, treat work as something I have to escape from. Sure take a break, clear the mind, rest up, but is it really the grind that we make it out to be or is that something in our head? When I see much of the up rising that is going on in the separation between the rich and poor I wonder how much of this is our doing? Aren't we the ones who decide if we like doing our jobs or not.

We need to teach our kids how to be positive. Instead of "Oh wait till you have to work" why not "so what do you want to be?". Why not do things with them instead of partying our brains out.

Boy do I have a lot to say on this topic. I'll be quiet now.

All true.
The 'joy' of earning, then spending your own.
When the $$ is secondary, the 'job well done'
is first.

Oh my...the merits of a hard days work, for the satisfaction of that alone...etc., etc. Having scruples in your dealings because it's "the right thing to do....All of the seemingly forgotten lessons...SO on the same page!!!...as far as "the politics"...really not interested right now!

I would tell them...#1. Love what you do. If you don't, find something that you are passionate about. I might have to explain the word "passion" to them laugh
#2. Make money second to happiness. #3. Never stop going to school and learning something new. That one might not go over too good  #4. Save first...spend second. #5. Remember the less fortunate....might have to explain that one too laugh #6. And finally, always be thankful...even if it's just a few cents.

I don't want to turn this into a political forum...but in my humble opinion ....it's not just the difference between the rich and the poor that has gotten to so many of the younger AND older <myself> generation. ...and yes, many have raised a 'spoiled' generation. I am happy to say that all my children lead a very productive life and are proud and happy with their jobs happy

The uprising MG is because of the rich getting special priviledges from the government ie: Banks, Fords, GM...etc. A government should NEVER feed the rich...period. Even if failure is immenant. We bailed them out and look how they have returned the favor.....not! People are still loosing their houses because the bank won't let them refinance, cars are still outrageous in prices and the taxes we pay are still through the roof, causing people to HAVE to have two and three jobs...leaving the children home to fend for themselves.
It's really a sad state of affairs....AND the reason that the people are trying to close Wall Street down.

I was referring to the last 40 years or so, but the occupy movement is an interesting one. There will be a few more before we start to think seriously about helping our kids become more productive than our generation. Having mom and dad come home hating their jobs has put a very bad spin on life for our young ones and has created a huge mess. I'm glad your kids had you to give them the right values. Unfortunately the American "I" generations (seeking purely self indulgence) has made the problem and ultimately will have to fix it.

I believe in the free society system so much that after the current generation crashes and burns (the biggest extent of this has already happened) we (mostly the youngsters) will rebuild the entrepreneurial system. This system will be mom and pop meets the internet. We are part way there now but it is only the beginning. The kids will build a new middleman society cutting out the current retail system and replacing it with an all new service setup that is more direct. This actually adds jobs and creates more successful middle class ventures. The slowest part of this process will be the food supply but even this will turn into an internet based system.

what happened

We cut out our middle men which cut out our middle class. We put way too many people in the middle management position without keeping them up to date with technology. Basically the middle class floated when they should have been the innovators. While other countries worked for the sake of good honest work we were figuring out how to work less and make more. Our job became money makers instead of a well polished skill. When this happens we loose our competitive edge and the hungry, more ambitious workers in the world kicked us in the butt. I hate to break the news but saying "buy American" is too little too late". Isolating ourselves is only going to dig the hole deeper as we have proven.

the solution

A new schooling system. The countries that kicked our behinds combined vocation with book work. By the time they were of age they were plugged in. Our kids were given a free ticket to party, their kids knew how to work and make it a healthy part of their lives. Our kids were taught to beat "the man", their kids became "the man".
