I can't say who it is because of Mingle rules. I have reported him to every moderator and his profile, and told the US Army that he is using a solder's image to try scam women and then threaten to hunt them down and harm them. Just please be aware there is a guy posing as a US Army Sgt. about to come home from Iraq. He will ask you for $5000 and try to negotiate you down to $1000. If you say no, and tell him he is scammer. The threats start. I expect as revenge he will try to shut down my account.

*edit*
I wrote to the army about guy impersonating an officer and scamming.

The gov't does not take this lightly. The actual person who responded from www.goarmy.com gave me this link and said report him.

IF you have REALLY been scammed and it's not just a vendetta, you can go the following link:

http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

Print out all Yahoo IMs, etc. with the scam before the person gets wise that you reported them. The gov't uses all communications as evidence that are printed. Print all emails. All photos, etc. It's all evidence. They REALLY do not like people who steal the images of military for this purpose. It is not just for military. Any guys who have been sending money to women in hopes of marriage or whatever can complain too. If you have sent checks or money orders or wired money, they want those receipts too. Any evidence you have. They also want email address, chat IDs, if you met them on here or another dating sight what their ID was there.

You need only report it through his profile.
Upper right beneath the username.
That is all it takes.
Notifying ONE moderator is enough, also.
(Include username to moderator.)

Oh okay Soufie. Thanks. I thought for sure he was going to try to lock me out. He went really psycho with the IMing and emails last night. I seriously as nutty as it sounds wrote the Army because he sent me a ton of photos and I believe he stole them and is using them to impersonate one of our solders and that makes me mad.

I have decided NO GOOD IN THE UNIVERSE COMES FROM YAHOO IM.

TG when someone wants an email, I have a JUNK account.

Love ya much,

Terri

Hello Terri,

I am sure you meant to report the person, however, there was no report. I did locate the account, and it is banned.

On each email, just under the text is a "report abuse/spam' button

You can also report suspected scammers, (or any other violations of our policies) By clicking on 'report user' on the persons profile.

For more information, concerning any aspect of Mingle2, click on the 'help' link at the top of the main header.

Thanks,
Mark

Apparently Mexican gangs are very much into online scams and identity theft. And some of those gang members are legal U.S. citizens who join the military for combat training, then they muster out and rejoin their gangs. I just learned this last night.

Anyway, given the threats mentioned and the military photo, it sounds as if this scammer might be from a Mexican gang rather than some of the more commonly known suspects. If so, then this scammer may be a very accomplished hacker. Mexican gangs have a TON of money. They actually hire top-notch college-educated hackers.

Be on your toes, and make sure all your accounts are secure. The Mexican gangs are the organized criminals that even seasoned career mobsters are the most afraid of. They do stuff that most other criminals won't even consider. Even the Russian mob pales beside the Mexican gangs.

I forgot to share this other link the Army gave me:

Additionally, to learn more about Internet schemes and ways to protect yourself, please visit www.lookstoogoodtobetrue.com

Also, I was told to put a neighboring city and not your real city online and also, I was told DO NOT USE YOUR REAL NAME ON ANYTHING SUCH AS YOUR YAHOO ID.

There are plenty of things you can do. I have several email accounts, and two of them are under phony names. Those accounts are used rarely to keep them secure in case I need to shutdown the other accounts.

Right now I should shutdown my Yahoo account, but it is tied into too much. I can't even remember everything I would need to switch over. Eventually I am going to need to make a list just so I can close it down.

Sadly, as far as Yahoo is concerned, I apparently have rights to the username. I created it many many years ago when Yahoo was still young. There have been a few companies who have actually sought the username for their own use. I stopped using the account for maybe 4 years, but Yahoo never allowed the username to be reissued. It was closed, and I had to re-open it, but I did not have to go through the full set up to do so. Sort of like deactivating then reactivating an account here on Mingle. As a result, I now have a sentimental attachment to the username. That's the sad part....I don't really want to give the name up.
