I was in Columbus over the weekend for the high school wrestling championships. Some Observations.
At the finals we were treated to a nice dose of propaganda with a short video on the big screen of the triumphs of victory and the agony of defeat showeing the coaches kids refs etc etc all building up to the color guard and national anthem. As I braced myself for another agonizeing rendition of the national anthem the lady singing muttered please join in as the words displayed accross the jumbo tron, no one at all sang along after it was over the applause was brief and sporadic as if we all knew we were liveing a fraud. I had a chill run down my spine at the "Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave over the land of the free and the home of the brave" I had to bite my tounge as the words hell no were on my lips. The good news was that a great time was had with lots of thrills and spills and a tip of the hat to all who got to state winners or losers it was a great accomplishment. So many close matches that could have gone either way with so much effort and heart shown by all. A side note, there was an occupy Columbus group camped out in downtown Columbus. |

I suppose you had to be there to appreciate the total lack of patriotism, after all these were the parents of kids who have scholerships lined up can afford to take off work and spemd 500 bucks or so on a weekend event and drive the distence. These are not the types who dwell on political threads and cant afford cab fair.
Its safe to say it was the backbone of america that was there, a great represenative of what is left of the middle class. When the lady said please join me in singing I cringed and was so pleasantly suprised when no one joined in and seemed anoyed that we were interupted by the farce. |
