it depends, my last marriage began as 'online stuff'

if it is a starting point, there are ways to tell, and I would take it seriously

if it is just a mutual hobby, a time passer, there are ways to tell that too and I wouldnt take it too seriously

so I imagine we have to assess each one of our online men individually on that "reality scale"

I guess I would take it more seriously if "he" had a notion to meet...

hey you met your spouse online seriously? that's a statement right there

yeah, its really just a first step, like meeting in a bar

it still requires follow up and we have to be able to tell those planning to follow up from those not planning to

I would not take it serious until there had been an in person meet and some dateing. O ther wise I generally take it as just pals maybe some fantasy ; too often I find it is someone who i all to happy to keep their life just how it is with friends in cyber space no effort

I don't take it seriously unless we start actually dating. Lots of people I've texted, talked to on the phone, really hit it off... then bam! you meet and they are NOTHING like they said they were. Not just physically, but mentally as well.

my experience has taught me that jumping too fast, be it online or IRL, usually results in a complete face plant on the concrete. i will take it seriously,,,,slow. :)

If I’m honest, mostly pinch of salt but there are/have been a few people where I feel that I have connected and it feels genuine regardless of whether I will ever meet them in real life.

Declarations of love before meeting? No. But, there are certain people that I get along with very well that I'd be quite happy to meet. I absolutely consider those people friends.

If I get along well enough with someone and it's possible to meet, I will put the effort into making that happen.

For me, there was a certain level of introductory naivete attached to the idea of suddenly having access to millions of people I could never possibly have known otherwise.

As it turns out, the millions of new people were no more interesting or compatible than all of the ones I already knew in real life. The macrocosm turned out to be nothing more than a much bigger version of the microcosm.

yes I have taken it very slowly and done a lot of "research" laugh

talked to several men, read a lot of profiles (really - even tho I seldom read them, with an accumulated 4 years online I have read quite a few) - dated, met about a half dozen or so men - all nice enough - but no "sparks"

so I am left feeling a bit like - you do the background work - build on your knowledge & experience so that when the one comes along (regardless of where u originally met) you want and those sparks fly u will recognize the signs and jump (or at least cuddle)laugh flowerforyou

Life is too short to take too many things too seriously.

as far as dating & casual acquaintanceships I agree

but finding a partner is important - perhaps not to be taken sooooo seriously that you never actually DO anything tho - I agree

gotta leap sometime IMO

Depends on how important finding a "partner" is to ya.

Sometimes if you don't take things to seriously, things happen.

I think so

enjoy the day! it's important to live and learn - love and share - flowerforyou

my thing is trust - I don't do that well...and in terms of the OP - I think it is even harder online. but not impossible.
