I don't see much abuse of force as I see him not being able to control the man. I don't see why when he had him face down he didn't just restrain him, but you never know unless your in that situation. I can tell you this though, personally I never use chokeholds EVER unless your trained you can seriously injure or even kill someone because of a move you've seen on TV that looks cool. It to me is almost NEVER warranted in this job, actually let me correct myself it is never warranted.

The suspect was a twice convicted shoplifter who came in with the intent to steal a 3rd time(Felony Burglary), then decided to fight and cause a scene which could add battery and even Strong Arm Robbery to the list of charges.

Are they supposed to let him go because he has a disability? So consumers get to pay high prices in stores so he can go in and just take for free when you and I work hard day in and day out for the money we make to get the things we want? But people say he gets a pass because he has a disability, and that pisses me off. He knew it was wrong and he knew what he was doing with two prior convictions for the same thing.

More hysteria by public opinion, I doubt anyone was hurt by what I saw.

I did not see what happened before the vid started, but honestly I have no sympathy for shop lifting.

No one was hurt or the LP would have gone to jail as well.

One time I saw a shoplifter running from a store with a Clerk running after him. The clerk FULL on Tackled the guy in the parking lot. Half the shoplifters face was on the ground from road burn. THAT was WAAAY over the top. Even the clerk had all kinds of road burn all over him.
What was taken? A 20 dollar piece of costume jewelry.

I have seen bad stuff, this video was not it.

Problem with that is the liability involved if you find out the person in question was not actually shop lifting.

I have broke my back twice, you tackle me by accident, its a huge suit. Id rather loose my job for not tackling someone than take on that kind of risk, both personally, and for the company.

Its my opinion any piece of merchandise worth a tackle should be kept under key, behind glass, and not able to be stolen so easily.

Just my .02

What your reffering to is a bad stop and there is a process we have to go through to verify if it's a bad stop or not and it actually works when you follow it.

Also if you didn't steal something then you dont need to run IMO. I have tackled overpills, liquor, meat, energy drinks etc and only if the person runs.

I tried to find the examples I was thinking of, some guy was running to grab his wallet, had set down the items they thought they saw him pocket, was tackled, ultimately sued and made big money, but now lives with nerve damage.

IDK, seems risky for merchandise not worth the amount of money to even file a suit.

Those are rookie LP people who didn't have the steps to make the stop.

You supposed to just let everyone steal and get away with it because they try to fight or run?
