I just wanted to find out everyones' opinion when viewing someone's profile and there are multiple misspelled words, especially when their profession says something like "civil engineer" or "government" etc. You would think they should of a higher education caliber.

please also consider the possibility that someone is not a native speaker.
As for me: I trie hard, had an above average education but will definitely make errors.

A typo isn't going to make me not contact them. But, if what they write is very hard to understand I will probably pass them by. I do my best to write well enough for others to understand me. I really don't have the patience to translate what people are trying to say.

No, I don't pay any more attention to their spelling than I do my own!!!

At least on your profile, I think you should check your spelling before you enter it. When corresponding via email or chat, of course we all make mistakes.

a typo or spelling error wont deter me from talking to someone- however- if the syntax is off- they dont sound like English is even a third language...... then i will just pass the message over- i will delete it. Why bother? they dont live in this country and i am not interested in talking to someone im never going to actually meet.

I would prefer that a person takes the time to at least try to fix any glaring errors before sending me a message but if they forget i can pretty much figure out what they are saying.

Don't forget www.m-w.com if you do not know the meaning of a word. Yes, some of those of us who write will hold it against you and such if you are a "civel enigear". BE ABLE TO SPELL WHAT YOU MAJORED IN IN COLLEGE. AND there is no word or character limit so feel free to spell out "BECAUSE" or say "'cause". No one will hold your good spelling against you. Many will get annoyed if you say "cuz" or "coz". "You might lack an education if......" is a game not just played by me. If I can spell out that my degree is in General Liberal Arts and Sciences and that I started out in English moved into anthropology with an emphasis on archeology and then obscure art history then general chemistry and then went screw it all and studied everything, you can spell "social studies".

That's like having a relationship with someone who does not pick out a greeting carefully and just signs it with their name with no note. How boring.

we cant always assume that occasional misspelling in a casual forum means someone doesnt take more care in OTHER situations that are more formal ......

now, CONSTANT misspelling, may be a different issue,,,

Occasional errors can be overlooked. But it drives me batty. I do not want to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what someone is trying to say.
