i have a son that is a special needs child
but he doesnt have adhd
he has a birthdefect called lawerence beild moon syndrome
which i also have

a friend of mine when her son was little
he had adhd... he would often yell at her, he even
got bad where he was beating up on his own mom
and the police was called
they got him into counseling. and he wasent on the meds very long that i recall.

my daughter had a friend that had a brother that was on ritlan
and apparently it so bad he hit his teacher

my son is a very active child.(hes 25yrs old now)
and when he was school, they really wanted to put him on
ritlan.. but we refused and there was a talk shows yrs ago based all around this

My son was diagnosed with ADHD talk to the councilors or doctors. At times it can be diet and keeping them busy.

My son was diagnosed at 2 1/2 I choose the no drug method. Till he was going into the 6th grade then we only used them for about 8 months until he got adjusted.

My only advice is sports. Get them into sports any kind of sports that will help use of the energy...

With my son we never had the late night problems. After school sports used all that energy he had pent up and help him sleep good.

Diet at times will make a difference as well...

Patience is the main key to it all.

My son is fixing to turn 30....when they hit puberty they seem to level out to an extent.

They can be harder to deal with but if you show your anger they seem to get worse...Patience is one of the main keys and sports to wear their butts out lol....

People are very quick to decide there's a defect. Has his IQ ever been tested? Is it possible he's just thinking of a lot of different things, eager to learn new things and left with nothing that's truly mentally stimulating and demanding of his full attention? Could he simply be bored?

In terms of strategies for helping with getting to sleep - there are some good websites out their with parenting support for people with ADHD.

How old is the child? That will make a difference with strategies. Also, there are just some people that need less sleep than others. One of my friends has a daughter who never went to sleep before midnight ("normal" child). She trained her daughter to play in her room, read and do quiet activities when the rest of the household went to bed. Could also be the child is lonely, and doesn't want to miss time with his family!

I am a teacher, so I can talk about some of the strategies I use for helping focus in class that might work at home???
- Having something to play with in his hands - allow fidgeting. Maybe a stress ball or silly putty or some other puzzle toy.

- going for a walk/run before bedtime to channel energy (as TxsGal suggested - exercise!)

- playing catch/throwing ball against the wall

- listening to soothing music while settling down or a white noise machine

I'd be interested in hearing about any strategies that you discover that work. flowerforyou

he is probably thinking

he could be an inventor

i was like this when i was a kid

i hardly slept at night

i am still a night person

people up at night are all bad

they must conform

as he consumes more and more fluoride and excitotoxins

this will disappear

diet and nutrition are very important too

it sound like your trying to fit a circle

trough a square hole

get him on pills and tell him hes wrong

have doctors tell him hes wrong

force him to sleep

beat him up if you have to

tell him conform or die

it worked for me

lol
