NEW PORT RICHEY - A man with no arms and one leg who wouldn't stop driving despite a long list of traffic violations was sentenced to five years in prison today on the latest charges.

Michael Francis Wiley, 40, also was sentenced to 15 years of drug offender probation. He pleaded no contest in June to a variety of felony driving and drug charges.

"I'd just like to say I know what I did was wrong," Wiley said in court today. "I am truly sorry your honor. I am."

Wiley taught himself to drive after losing both arms and a leg in an electrical accident when he was 13. He has already spent more than three years in prison for habitually driving without a license, kicking a state trooper and other charges.

He once had a valid license, but it has now been suspended several times since 1985, according to his attorney. He starts the car with his toes, shifts with his knee and steers with the stump of his left arm. He turns on the lights with his teeth.

thats crazy. he cant defend his ownself in jail

maybe he was sitting when he kicked him?

Probably, but I had more fun imagining that he did the 'crane kick' from karate kid, where you jump in the air on one leg, kick with the same leg, and land on that leg.

I saw the article on that, and pictures. That was just unbelievable. One of my ex-husbands is married to a woman that has no arms,(basically her fingers are just below her shoulders). She drives, plays on the computer, dresses herself, kids, cooks, everything with her feet.

This guy was just a bad person.

Wow! i am here to testify this driver probably drives better than most of the hillbillys here!!!! they are firing on ONE cylinder for the most part!!!!

with all the tourists,Massholes,Maineiacs,old people who can barely see over the damn wheel and cell phone users this bozo wouldn't make me blink an eye .god my middle finger gets tired this time of year.

I would think that with all of this guys -determination-, with modern technology, there should have been a way to hook him up for safe driving. Some kind of harness that measures his arm-stub movements, something for his leg to control.

But then, thats assuming his poor driving is due only to his disability - it appears he has other issues.
