Topic: What should be the next step in gaming format?

I think something like a USB or SD Card style format should be the next move. Just look at the DS and how good that has become over the years. The memory cards are becoming more popular for media thanks in large part to cell phones. I read on place that the largest SD card is 128 GB and hope to reach 1 TB soon. A single layer blue ray disc can hold 25 GB of data, 50 GB on dual-layer disc.

A card thick like the DS games but the size of a 3.5 inch floppy I think should be the next format to replace the disc format. How small would the console be? Maybe even design to be installed in computers where you have a DVD drive?

DLC has become popular in other media and is what is hurting most things like DVDs and other disc format. No longer do you have to buy cases, print artwork and pay for shipping when you can put it online as a download and save money, even sell the product cheaper if you want to.

Still there are people like me who want to hold the product. Disc killed the video game cartage, audiotapes and VHS. Now downloads is killing the disc format. I think the hope for physical media is the memory cards. Cameras, both video and photo, computers and cell phone all use the memory cards.

You can make a memory card the size of the old 3.5 floppy which is a little bigger then 9 SD card. Just think of a 3.5 memory card that can be equal to nine 128 GB SD cards if not more.

No moving parts. I had to take my PS2 apart to re-grease the rod that the eye moved along. A friend of mine PS2, the wheel stopped spinning the disc. Memory cards and hard drives are leaving the disc format behind. Downloading is driving the growth of the cards and hard drives.

Why would anyone want a simulated universe when this one just about has everything in it already that you could ever imagine. And its a lot more real. laugh laugh

Not to mention it's 3D too!!

And you get to die, feel joy and pain and everything.

Like books and movies, gaming is another way to be entertained. In real life I can't run around slaying dragons and giants with a sword, well I could, but then I'd be locked up.

I am waiting for real 3D, not the fake 3D that is nothing more then force perspective 2D. Now the holodeck on Star Trek is 4D, because you just don’t get to walk around the object but touch it as well.
