I'm just curious how long it takes to get your inr right it's been two weeks since I got out of the hospital from getting two large blot clots removed and two stints put in. My inr was 1.2 when they sent me home I have it checked 3x a week now for two weeks and it hasn't budged. My dr has increased the warifin taken me off one of my other drugs. I just don't get it anyone else experience this

Hi
I think you'd'find more shared experience on other sites, specialized in health.
It's'really important that your inr rises to the desired window (2-3 ? 1.5-2.5 ? Depends on your prescribed target after discharge)
Watch your diet, some food (e.g. Cabbage) contain vitamin K and put obstacle to antivitamin k mechanism of warfarin. It's'ok to have them, just not in large amount or in too wide variating amount (like cabbage dish every other day would mess up your inr once high once low)
Beware also of competition between drugs like NSAIDs and warfarin, could again interefer, and it's'ok if there's'no variation.
Bottomline, reach wanted inr as soon as possible, bbut not too high, and minimize changes that could unbalance inr, food and comedications

I would ask your doctor how long it should take to get your INR within the range he or she wants it to be in.

I have a friend who is on warfarin and has to get it checked once a month, but once in awhile she has to go once a week.

Thanks I don't mean to complain when so many others have things so much worse. Just concerns me they can't get it up there and I have been watching those things. Thanks again

I would want to know how long too. It's not fun getting your finger poked 3 times a week. Sorry to hear that you were in the hospital and I hope that you are feeling betterflowerforyou

You could find a herbalist. I think ginger thins the blood and lowers clotting agents, and garlic is supposed to be anti-platelet. But a herb guy or gal would know more. I would say ask you doc. but they don't know anything about alternative medicines most of the time. If you want other options, ask around, but make sure you do consult a physician, especially if you're still on meds that need a prescription.

I don't know if clots can go away without chemical medicines, but i also heard that kiwi fruit, two a day will lower cholesterol and platelet activity. They will also help with being more regular.
