i think it is a crappy deal but i am undecided if cheney had a role in it. cheney doesn't have a stake in halliburton anymore but he does have a large stake in a company that has a large amount of halliburton stock.

there are reports that clinton used halliburton the same way that bush is now so it may just be the old status quo again and nothing intentionally crooked.

knox... i know a lot more facts than you ever will on this one. Trust me, halliburton is the only one capable of the work. if cheny knows or is associated with them, so what? I know the mayor here, does that mean im guilty something if he does something wrong? your looking for dirt in a clean room on this one.

Rambill:

You're just like a neocon--so full of s***, you can see it a mile away. Trust YOU????? You've given NO facts, made NO explanations, given NO reasonings, and the only thing you expect us to go on is trust YOU? Aren't you the least bit concerned with Federal laws being broken here? No, I guess in your miserable existance, illegal acts are justified dependind on who commits them. As for your other ignorant "comment":

"Halliburton is the only one capable of the work."

Oh brother. You can't possibly be THAT stupid, can you? The only thing Halliburton has accomplished is ripping off the U.S. for billions of dollars. And that all right with you. There's some real genius there, pally. People like you are the very reason those in power can run roughshod over the citizenry.

dont really care if you trust me or believe me or not. as for the facts, i travel all over the world doing construction. thats what i do. its common knowledge in my circle what various companies do and are capable of doing, or are willing to do. usually its less about the cost of a project than being able to finish the job on time. Time is everything in construction. i dont bid work i tell them what i can do, what resources and manpower i have in thier area, and how long it will take. there rarely is more than one contractor that is able to do a certain job in my line of work. if my assets are a good fit for the job, then i name the price i need to get. halliburton is a huge company with the trained personnell and assets in place. there simply isnt any competition for the type of work they do. Also, what may be illegal here can also be business as usual, depending on the situation. sometimes you have to sleep with the enemy so to speak to get the job done.

Nice to see you can justify criminal activities, Rambill, as long as "certain interests" get what they want. As I said in an earlier post, it's attitudes like this that's made America the morally bankrupt place it is today.

And that, sadly, is the greatest tradegy of all.

.. another tradegy is the factory workers that never leave thier neighborhood who think they understand international business dealings.

..another tragedy is failed builders with delusions of grandiuer.

Meeting with Prime Ministers of foreign countries concerning construction?

That one should be posted in the "Jokes and Funny Stories" forum.

rambill...we're s'pose to bow down to your job "traveling the world doing construction"...
that has nothing to do with the morals of war ...its your job for chrissakes...you s'pose based on that fact alone that the rest of us have no viable opinion...laughable man....shallow...
go back to the blinders you wear and the crapwagon you drive...like Knox said..you offer nothing except your opinion...which is transparent to say the least...

U.S. law permits the use of sole source contracts when determining what company to hire and the contract with halliburton right now is considered a sole source and not a no-bid contract. cost plus contracts usually go hand in hand with a sole source because of the hast in which they were "negotiated" and is the exact reason why the american government and taxpayers are getting hosed on the deal.

in my opinion it was not a good deal and they should have put more consideration into but you can't deny the facts. these types of contracts have been used by other administrations and seems to be just another example of the status quo.
