Here ya go Jess. I got this off MedicineNet.Com (I believe was the name of the site) I'm being this specific because I know you and Bl8nt are pretty good with herbals and what they're used for. Hopefully, you can come up with something that will help.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is comprised primarily of two related diseases - chronic bronchitis and emphysema. In both diseases, there is chronic obstruction of the flow of air through the airways and out of the lungs, and the obstruction generally is permanent and progressive over time.

Asthma also is a pulmonary disease in which there is obstruction to the flow of air out of the lungs, but unlike chronic bronchitis and emphysema, the obstruction in asthma usually is reversible. Between "attacks" of asthma the flow of air through the airways usually is good.

There are exceptions, however. In some patients with COPD the obstruction can be partially reversed by medications that enlarge or dilate the airways (bronchodilators) as with asthma. Conversely, some patients with asthma can develop permanent airway obstruction if chronic inflammation of the airways leads to scarring and narrowing of the airways. This process is referred to as lung remodeling. These asthma patients with a fixed component of airway obstruction are also considered to have COPD.

There also is frequent overlap among COPD patients. Thus, patients with emphysema may have some of the characteristics of chronic bronchitis. Similarly, patients with chronic bronchitis also may have some of the characteristics of emphysema.

My sister told me to change my diet to green smoothies and grow myself a new pair of lungs.

I think I just need sex.

My doctor wants to give me steroid shots, and he has in the past and they have worked wonders (temporarily). But I've heard bad things about steroids so I'm trying to avoid the shots and just die of lack of oxygen instead.

I do have Albuterol inhalers that help very temporarily. I have both the pocket inhalers and a full-blown nebulizer.

I still think that all I really need is sex.

At least one last time before I quit breathing altogether. bigsmile

Thankyou Wench..flowerforyou

James, so this is a chronic illness?

From Jackie French's book, titled 'the best of Jackie French'...author of many books including, 'Backyard Self Suffiencey'..

"Mayan indians used chili to treat asthma, coughs, sore throats and many other respiraory disorders. Recent studies have vindicated this traditional approach indicating that the treatment with capsaicin desensitises the respiratory mucosa to chemical and mechanical irritants. In other words, add as much chili or Tobasco sauce as you to your food. I add a few drops of Tobasco sauce to just about everything I eat. It doesn't make the food hot. In fact, it isn't even noticable and it might just help your long term sinus problems or astma."

"Chili gargle

"Chili is mildly antibacterial and makes an excellent gargle for sore throats and larygitis-preferably combined with other herbs. Cover one fresh or dried chili, a teaspoon of fresh or dried thyme, (or other mint leaves, Japanese menthol mint is best) and a tablespoon lavender flowers with two cups of boiling water. Cool until just warm. Leave for five minutes; strain and gargle."

I hope this may ease some of your symptoms for you James.flowerforyou

Well, that's what the scientific western doctors say anyway.

But witches know better don’t they?

Don’t they?

Anything’s curable when you’re filled with the spirit of the cosmos.

I know I’m full of it because people are always telling me that I’m full of it.

They are talking about spiritual energy aren’t they?

I hope your mother lives longs and prospers.

My doctor told me that, yes, it is chronic and irreversible, but he also said that it can be stopped in it’s tracks and held to it’s current damage. It doesn’t need to continue to get worse. Unfortunately he didn’t exactly explain how to do that.

I have also read other places that it’s also possible to do exercises to expand your lung capacity. When you do that you cause your lungs to stretch exposing new tissue that hasn’t yet been damaged. So there is some hope.

Plus, I believe in the power of positive thinking (or spirit, or energy, if you like). So I do believe that if you merely believe that you can get better then you can. So encourage your mother to BELIEVE that she can get better! (You too KAT!).

It’s not a hopeless situation.

My sisters swears on the power of “green smoothies”. You can look them up on the web if you like. It’s just drinking vegetable and fruit drinks that have been blended and are uncooked. My sister only just started this recently, (although she’s been a vegetarian for most of her life). Anyway, she says that since she’s started drinking green smoothies her hair and nails have been growing at a phenomenal rate. She told me that I should drink green smoothies and grow a new pair of lungs. laugh

But seriously, there might be some truth to it.

So anyway, if I should die before I wake I pray my soul ends up somewhere in Australia near Jess Lee and I come back as a handsome irresistible surfer dude.

Just come sit on the deck, and wander the beach with me, James..I really am not asking for anything more than that...besides, we would fight over waves if you were a surfer dude.

For people with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), taking a deep breath of fresh air is a constant challenge. That's because this group of conditions, which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema, causes serious damage to the lungs - so much damage that breathing freely is out of the question.

COPD weakens millions of Americans. In fact, it's the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S. Yet mainstream medicine can't do anything to cure COPD, or even treat it effectively. That doesn't mean they haven't been trying. They have, and they've come up with some new but very bad-sounding ideas. Consider these three proposed treatments, all currently in the research phases:

* Literally poking holes in patients' lungs
* Shooting special "glue" into their lungs, and
* Putting one-way valves inside bronchial tubes to let stale air out

If those sound like bad ideas, here's what makes them worse: They're the best that mainstream medicine has to offer. These "innovative experiments" are still highly experimental, nowhere near ready to be used on millions of patients. So most COPD patients are left with two not-so-great choices - lung transplants, or a lifetime of lugging around an oxygen machine.

But there is another choice, a better one, that's already proven to safely and effectively improve lung capacity. It's all-natural. It's noninvasive. And, believe it or not, this miraculous remedy costs only about $1 a day to use! All it takes is one drop under the tongue to set off a healing response, one that helps still-healthy lung tissue work at top capacity and helps your own body work to clear out the excess mucous that's clogging the damaged lung tissue.

The renowned research team at the Health Sciences Institute (HSI) uncovered this little-known natural DNA therapy while looking into possible remedies for COPD. And while it is not a cure, it could be our best hope yet against the nation's #4 killer.

When you enter your email address in the signup box, you'll learn everything you need to know about this powerful DNA therapy, proven to revive damaged lungs, in your Special Research Alert, Clogged Lungs Cleared!, exclusively from the HSI research team.

This is what HSI is all about. Our doctors and researchers are dedicated to bringing you the kinds of natural cures you would never otherwise hear about.

The above was on page 5 of this thread and too synchronistic for me to ignore. Not on my own computer, so I'm not willing to download (I do have my polite moments) but who knows, it may prove helpful.
