Wal Mart decided that a $15 minimum wage was a good idea to combat wage inequality...but instead of Wal Mart raising prices, a 15% OPTIONAL gratuity would be added to your receipt...every penny of the gratuity would go to their low wage workers...the number of customers OPTING OUT would be tallied for a period of time and if more than 50% of customers OPTIONED OUT, Wal Mart would suspend the program...of course, if more than 50% did NOT option out and paid, one could DEFINITELY conclude that Americans do support minimum wage increase.

Will Walmart shoppers support "Every Day High Wages?"

Walmart touts "Everyday Low Prices," but we asked its customers to support 'Everyday High Wages" instead. We posed as representatives of "15 for 15," a make-believe organization advocating that Walmart raise prices by 15% and use the extra cash to pay its low-skilled workers $15 per hour. The surcharge would be added to customer's bills at checkout, just like a gratuity at a restaurant. Not surprisingly few shoppers supported our cause. Even those who felt Walmart workers should be paid more did not want to pay higher prices themselves to make it possible. Those demanding higher wages for Walmart's workers should consider the importance of low prices to Walmart's customers.

so that's where all the chatter is coming from I'm hearing...

and it was a RESOUNDING NO ... when people have to open their wallets talk always gets real...I bet Washington would change real fast if there were lines on tax returns ponying up payment for some of our social programs...

its an employers job to pay their employees,,,the reason walmart can be so profitable is DUE TO THEIR PRICES,, being competitive

people shop there so they don't have to spend much money, of course they aren't expecting or welcoming the idea of taking on the multi million dollar companies payroll as well,,,

and with that profit they can pay their employees more than they do,, I don't think it has to be 15 dollars across the board

but they can be as competitive in their wages as they are in their prices

google maintained its profits and still increased their employee wages,, so can walmart

but if they want to shift responsibility for their employees wages to their customers,, and people buy into that theory....so be it

And that knowledge is supposed to keep retails, especially corporate retailers like Walmart, from raising prices how?

You are delusional if you think retails won't raise prices along with wage increases..... and hire a better class of workers to boot

don't know or expect greed to go away or employers like walmart to not raise prices so they can pass the buck to their customers instead of sharing their already astronomical profit

free market may find tem slipping in profit though if they try to,, because, customers are already PAYING ENOUGH, for the employer to use towards a better wage

If I pay the housecleaning crew 100 bucks for their work, and the housecleaning company splits 95 of it between their management and stockholders and pays the maid who did the work 5,,,,Im not gonna be convinced that its incumbent on me o pay them 110 so they can split 100 and pay her five bucks more

nah,, they should be splitting that more fairly from what I ALREADY GAVE THEM,,,,,, but that's just me,,,

Being a WalMart CEO, I suggest, we could cut workers, give the incentive of the rest to raise production so, I can have a billion dollar bonus next quarter.

It appears you know NOTHING of the retail business and how little the profit margin actually is compared to risk from, stales/defect, returns, theft, insurance, wages, benefits, etc, etc, etc

It helps to know about a subject before you comment on it.

Volume is the only hope for profit, increasing risk, so raising wages raises prices....ALWAYS!

Google generates most of the revenue used to pay employees and maintain profits from their customers who advertise on Google.

Those customers sell those services and products to their customers. Then the revenue from the sale of those services and products, sold to the general public, are used to pay employees, to generate a profit and to pay for advertisement....IE, to pay Google.

There isn't a Fairy Princess that sprinkles gold dust into Google's coffers, or any other business, to pay their employees. The cost all filters down to the general consumer eventually.

Why you may ask? That Fairly Princess doesn't have any gold dust left because it uses it all to finance the federal government. laugh

What if Wallmart rather than raising prices took a small cut in its massive profits to fund its pay increase? Each wallmart costs a community on average of 900,000 per year in food stamps and medical care and free lunches etc etc because of its low pay.

whoa of course, there is only one way to do it, unlike ANYTHING else in life,,,got it,,

numbers apparently lie

its the insurance rates that keeps them from paying employee wages but not from keeping up their own astronomical salaries,,,

How about we give all Walmart employees a $15 min and in turn reduce Walmarts tax burden by 15%? That should work.happy

If you go to work for any retailer then complain about how little you get paid, then you aren't too bright. Like these idiots wanting McDonalds employees to get $15 an hour, are any of you who support this willing to pay $8 for a solo bigmac?

Again most of you are just parroting the right wing corporate media.

Wallmart can afford to give its employees a raise without raising prices they would just have to take a little less in profit. Its a false choice to say more pay for workers is an automatic increase in prices.

Its a fact that each wallmart store costs taxpayers about 900,000$ per store in government aid to its low paid workforce. Its just sick to transfer tax payer money to support the Walton heirs insane take home pay, I think its 2 billion a year for each heir. Oh I forgot they
worked so hard to earn that ;)
