It's kind of interesting to think that various cultures have had different religious beliefs through out time. Some having multiple gods and some having one god and then some people having no gods at all.

Considering that christian religions are all based on the bible which is filled with stories I expect are more symbolic in their nature than anything. What if all those stories never really happened? What if all those stories were just made up as life lessons of the time?

Now the reason I ask that is this. Lets say at some point all the civilizations on Earth today get wiped out so only a few people remain. Those people are then going to be what rebuilds human life on Earth. They will pass on stories to their kids and eventual a new society will be produced. Now what if that new society found some of the books our writers have written and start religions based on them because they think that those things actually happened. Imagine a religion started because of Stephen King's IT. A group of people living in fear of a kill clown that hide in storm drains.

What if a group found books of the Lord of the rings and based a religion on those? They would probably be running around trying to cast spells and hunting trolls.

While this is kind of a joke. It is certainly possible that this kind of thing could happen and I think it would be one of the weirdest things to see. I guess in away we have seen it since Scientology was pretty much created by a failed sci-fi writer. That one didn't even need civilization to be wiped out.

what if sci fi writings were discovered and thought to be actual history and science,,,?

it would be interesting

truth. socially and pedantically, is what is agreed upon,

its hard for a false truth to stand the test of time,, but its not impossible,,

It doesn't even have to be a sci-fi based book. Imagine what it would be like of a future society started a religion based on a horror novel or god forbid a Harlequin romance novel. lol

Are you sure about that? People have been accepting the notion of God, Christ and the Holy Ghost as being one in substance, without body, parts, or passions, as scripture, even though each of those characteristics were made up by the Council of Nicaea and the Council of Constantinople between 325-425 AD. That's roughly 1500 years. A huge portion of Christianity still holds to this idea even though none of these ideas are mentioned in the only set of books they believe to be infallible, namely, the Bible.

False ideas very easily withstand the test of time, if they are disguised with truth and perpetuated by ignorance or liars (well meaning or otherwise).

there is no disguise for truth, its either true or it is not

and false truths rarely stand the test of time,,,,,

although many truths have no 'body or parts'

As I mentioned Scientology was created by a fail sci-fi writer. I don't know how the idea of suggesting we are here because an alien lord dropped a bunch of alien spirits into a volcano got accepted. But it has and seem to be growing and mostly among celebrities. Probably because they are the ones most able to pay for all the things that church wants.

what is the core belief of Scientology? spirit and body it cant really be disproven can it?

I don't think scientology can be proven or disproven, making it a belief system that doesn't have 'body or parts',, it doesn't really follow a history of any person or persons,,,, I think the belief system existed long before scientology put labels on it,,,

just my opinion though

It's no more nutty than any other religion. I just find it interesting that it was started the way it was in the age of information. Also find it interesting that to be a member as I've heard they charge a hefty price for a lot of things. Maybe that's because they want to grow as much as possible as fast as possible. Seems like when a lot of things grow to fast though that they kind of implode.

I don't consider it a religion as much as a philosophy, but that's another debate

I also don't say it started In the age of information, I just think this VERSION of a long held philosophical belief in spirit and physical body,, was only recently used in an organized group as large as scientologists,,,

Their the answer for me. Research. Learn where things actually come from.. what u said is absolutely true and the Christian leaders know these councils gave us Pagan traditions and made the law of Yahweh of no use. 99% will not look at what they really believe. Its prophecied though that is the way it would be before his return. Everyone doing what they see is right in their own eyes. they make themselves Elohim. nice post thanksdrinker

Curious. I looked at your profile to find out you are a guy. So I am guessing that the left side of your main picture is you. Who is the other side?
