Topic: Our government is both master and enabler

Our government is at once two things. It views itself as master and enabler. Those who work, they see as cash cows, an unlimited pocketbook, cattle. Those who don't, they convince them they are unable to succeed, cultivate an environment of envy, and coddle them with government goodies to make them dependent on the system. It is an insidious, dangerous, and sad environment that big government is creating in this country. We must work together to stop it.

The dangers of big government reaches far beyond its attack on our finances and our freedom. Its actions also attack our way of life, our culture, our moral fiber. America was built on the blood, sweat, and tears of those who came before us. They risked all, many lost all, to fight for freedom against an all controlling government. Even when the odds were against them; even when they were laughed at and mocked; they continued the fight. Actually, they fought even harder. That is what we need to do

What do you think?

"… the greedy hand of government thrusts itself into every corner and crevice of industry, and grasps the spoil of the multitude. Invention is continually exercised, to furnish new pretenses for revenue and taxation. It watches prosperity as prey, and permits none to escape without a tribute"."
-- Thomas Paine

Look back over the past, with its changing empires that rose and fell, and you can foresee the future, too.

I agree with all your points but would like to add that the government is spending our children's money and the people who are spending it did not get one vote from the people who will eventually have to pay it back.

I think the goal is bankruptcy. Nothing will give the government more power than the failure of the US financial system. With a worthless Dollar, a new socialist system can be "imposed by necessity".
Jobs can be passed out as political favors and freedom, as we know it, will be over.

Think of the US annual spending as a pie chart. Now, with artifically low interest rates by printing money endlessly, the slice of the pie for interest payments is small, i.e. 5% (but not that small). Raise the interest rates to those in the seventies and eighties with the increased total debt and watch the interest take up much of the pie. Then watch to see who loses in the cuts.

And it will continue to get worse as people living on entitlements outnumber the voters who fund the entitlements now. And no, SS and Veteran's pensions are not entitlements.....

I can see sooner or later some political cleansing as more people lose their jobs and more employers cut people back to part time. Temporary and part time employment is the wave of the future so if you are not self motivated your pretty much ****ed until enough people find themselves in this situation and become destitute.

Once people get a taste of their own apathy, it's on as they say.

Marxists are also correct in noticing the close association between the state and business, especially the banking elite--even though their explanation for it is faulty. The reason is not that the bourgeois establishment sees and supports the state as the guarantor of private property rights and contractualism. On the contrary, the establishment correctly perceives the state as the very antithesis to private property that it is. The more successful a business, the larger the potential danger of governmental exploitation, but the larger also the potential gains that can be achieved if it can come under government's special protection and is exempt from the full weight of capitalist competition. This is why the business establishment is interested in the State and its infiltration.

"Imagine a society in which politically connected individuals enrich themselves by giving money to politicians in return for earmarked dollars extracted from taxpayers. Imagine political entrepreneurs displacing market entrepreneurs by weaving fantastic tales of energy independence and a green tomorrow, sucking down billions in taxpayer loan guarantees for businesses that cannot possibly achieve economic sustainability. This is how crony Capitalism works.

Imagine a handful of executives earning hundreds of millions of dollars selling toxic mortgage bonds pyramided on low cost government-guaranteed capital made available by key Congressional committee chairmen who got special mortgage deals. Imagine a revolving door between reckless Wall Street derivative gamblers selling fraudulent unbacked insurance products and the regulatory agencies that bail them out using unlimited quantities of fiat currency printed up by unelected bureaucrats. This is how Washington works." -- Bill Frezza
