is there the option to remove someone from my search prior to any contact with them? for example; if they smoke, i'm not interested; yet that person continues to appear in my search ~ if i could remove them it would save time and aggravation

Have you tried the 'Advanced' Search?:
http://mingle2.com/search/preferences

You can set preferences such as you mention above.
(>>>Search>>>Advanced Search)

oops I think I messed up and clicked on "maybe" instead on "no" on a mutual match. Acer's keyboard sometimes acts up! tears
Is there a way to correct such an error or simply forget about it and move on?

Hmmm.
What occurs to me is, if he also clicked 'Yes' or 'Maybe' and you
did indeed click the same, when he shows up as a Mutual Match you
can delete him immediately (little box with an 'x' next to his name
on your MM page.)

Also, he may still appear as a MM option which means you could
say 'No' next time.
