I am thinking of entering a strongman competition in 6 months .I have never entered one before .
I would like to hear feed back pro or con .
I am 51 and would like to hear from people close to my age who have or thinking about entering something similar events .
The events in the competition are:
Car Carry
Harness truck pull
Atlas Stone
Tire flip
Conan's Wheel
Log press
What type of exercise should I do to prepare for each event

Good on you. Get to the gym and do the three main power lifting exercises which are Squats, deadlifts and bench presses. Add overhead presses to it and also find a field and do sprints because you need speed as well as strength for some of the competitions. One of the reasons why Jon Pall Sigmasson was so good was because he had explosive energy. That's what sprinting will help you with. I don't know if he did them but I reckon he did because he was very quick on his feet.

True the 3 big lifts are key. But unless you are able to train at a gym or facility that has the proper equipment you are at a big loss. I have power lifted for years and train heavy but when I switch to strongman style training my body HURTS. No question the stress it puts on your adrenal system. Believe it or not technique is key and muscle memory. Muscle pattern. Learned movements.

For the strongman competition you need to be extremely athletic & require speed & technique.
Ofcourse you can't leave out the main lifts but also add core strenghtening moves & running up steps

Well in all honesty no not really . I have used weights before
but my body has done nothing but hard labor from construction work for the last 20 years. '

I don't expect to win it . Hell I bet I don't make the top ten in the novice division I am thinking about entering to test myself to give my self a challenge and a goal .

i wouldn't advise you to go for the strongman this year but its upto you if you feel ready for it coz it would be safer to get started on a Weight training program first to condition your body.. such competition & Training is very taxing on the body....you could Train for a year & go for the one next year is a safer choice but that all depends on you tho drinks

Thats cool...you could start on a training program right away & enter to see what its like but ii would not be a safer choice....only you know how ready you are

Yes I probably should wait and train for a year .
If I feel confident enough to enter the competition in 6 months then I will, if not then I keep on training .

There are many workouts for it & I've been following one I created that really works in the ''Transform Yourself '' thread.
You don't necessarily have to follow that workout but it's one that I believe in.
Good luck tho drinker
