![]() A 9-year-old Florida boy could face sexual harassment charges for penning love notes to a girl in his class, his furious mother said. The tiny admirer gushed about his crush, telling her she's "pretty and cute" while boldly revealing his feelings for her in the handwritten loose-leaf letter, ABC Action News reported. "I like you," the Tampa fourth grader in the Hillsborough County Public Schools district wrote inside a heart drawing. "I like your hair because it is not sloppy. I like your eyes because they sparkle like diamonds." The romantic proclamations landed the little boy in the principal's office, where school officials threatened they'd get authorities to slap him with sexual harassment charges, according to ABC. They said his pining was inappropriate and came in several "unwanted" letters. It also prompted other students to tease the young writer, saying he wanted to see the girl naked, though the notes never expressed any sexual intentions, the news station said. "He's 9," said the boy's mother, who wasn't identified. "What little kid doesn't write love notes? My 9-year-old doesn't even know what sexual harassment means." Hillsborough school district officials did not immediately return requests for comment Thursday. |

They said his pining was inappropriate and came in several "unwanted" letters.
If there was one letter, I can see the problem. But if there are a lot of letters, and if the recipient, or the teacher, said "stop that," and he didn't, then I can see where there could be a problem. school officials threatened they'd get authorities to slap him with sexual harassment charges, according to ABC.
This is vague and probably an exaggeration. I mean there's going to be a huge difference between "we're going to slap you with sexual harassment charges, kid! We want you out of here and in prison! Sit in this locked room until we let you out! Your mom's not coming, we won't let her, just the cops! Muahahaahahahaha!" vs. "Why did you keep writing her unwanted letters? Do you know that this is the kind of stuff that can get you charged with sexual harassment? Can you just stop? Because she's said she doesn't want to keep getting these from you. If you keep doing this there could be more severe consequences like getting the cops in here to press sexual harassment charges. It's not funny or a minor issue. It's pretty serious, can you please just stop doing this?" Not to mention, maybe the 9 year old is a real a-hole. "I can write letters all I want! I know she didn't want them, I liked teasing her, she's stupid. If you douches do anything I'll tell everyone that you touched me!" "You shouldn't threaten people. We could threaten you with sexual harassment based on the evidence here." But based on crappy reporting anymore either one could constitute "threatening" the kid with the authorities. My 9-year-old doesn't even know what sexual harassment means."
Ignorance of the law is no defense. Maybe the principal and teacher were trying to teach him what it meant and it seemed like they "threatened" the kid with sexual harassment. A 9-year-old Florida boy could face sexual harassment charges
People "could" face all sorts of things at any time during the day. Someone "could" face losing their license if they're caught traveling more than 1 mile an hour over the limit. In many states you "could" have your car towed immediately if you don't immediately provide proof of insurance. "Could" is manipulative. |
