Crying Newborn Found in NYC Church Nativity Scene
By Michael George Police say a wailing newborn baby was found with his umbilical cord attached inside a nativity scene at a Queens church. Michael George reports. UPDATE: Video Shows Woman Buying Towel to Swaddle Newborn Before Baby Found in Church Nativity Scene A wailing newborn baby was found with his umbilical cord attached inside a nativity scene at a Queens church, police say. The baby was discovered by a maintenance worker at the Holy Child Jesus Catholic Church in Richmond Hill Monday at about noon, according to the New York Police Department. The Rev. Christopher Ryan Heanue told NBC 4 New York the worker was cleaning inside the church when he heard the baby crying inside the nativity scene, which had been set up earlier than usual this year. "The secretary burst in and said, 'Father, there's an emergency in the church, you have to come,'" Heanue said. Inside Baby Jesus' spot in the manger was a newborn, a few hours old at most, Heanue estimated. Bishop Octavio Cisnero, also there, couldn't believe his eyes. "There was a baby, wrapped in swaddling clothes, in a towel," said Cisnero. "The umbilical cord was still hanging from the baby." EMTs checked out the baby, and he appeared to be healthy. O'Connor 'Safe and Sound' After Overdose Message Heanue said surveillance video captured a woman entering the church about 20 minutes before the baby was found. "A woman did come into the church with some bag, left the church and the bag was sort of dangling in the wind," It's not clear who the woman is from the video, he said, but police are investigating. The church is considered a Safe Haven under state law, which allows a parent to safely leave a newborn baby up to 30 days of age anonymously and without fear of prosecution at suitable locations, like at hospitals, firehouses or police stations. But the law also requires the child to be left with an appropriate person or for someone to be contacted right away. It's not clear if the woman will face charges if she's identified. Heanue said the parish has taken a special interest in the baby and some members have expressed an interest in adopting. Cisneros said "it means that people care, and they're willing to come in and help and give this new life a future." "This child, we believe, is a gift, almost, to this parish," Said Heanue. http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Newborn-Baby-Umbilical-Cord-Found-Crying-Nativity-Scene-Queens-Church-353226351.html/ ------------------ IMO: Who ever you are.. Beats what just happened in CA...
"" Los Angeles (CNN)— The tiny baby girl pulled alive from a crypt of asphalt and rubble along a popular Compton walking path is being called a miracle by authorities. Just 4.3 pounds and 15 inches long, the infant is now getting treatment in a neonatal intensive care unit at an undisclosed Los Angeles hospital. "She was cold to the touch (when rescued)" Friday afternoon, Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell said Monday. "The baby would not have survived cold temperatures overnight." The girl -- estimated to be 4 or 5 days old -- may not have been found if not for the sharp ears of two sisters strolling near the riverbed between 136th Street and Slater Avenue. "I walk along this path every morning," Evangelina McCrary said. "But it was so cold on Friday that my sister and I decided to walk during the afternoon." The sisters first thought the strange sounds they heard might be from a cat, but instinct told them to call 911 and put the phone near the source of the muffled cries. The emergency operator instantly dispatched two deputies to the riverbed. "I could hear the baby crying and crying, but once I looked into the hole, I couldn't see the baby," McCrary said. "All I could see was dirt and rocks." Adam Collette, a 36-year-old deputy and father of two young girls, arrived and began removing debris. "(The) cry I heard as a father was more of a cry for help, 'I'm hungry' -- not an 'I'm injured' cry," Collette said at a news conference on Monday. McCrary said once Collette picked up the baby, "It finally stopped crying." "I was so relieved, so thankful, I started crying myself," said McCrary, who has five grandchildren. Social workers said the baby could have been brought to a hospital or fire station under the county's Baby Safe Surrender Program . Since the program's inception in 2001, 140 babies have been safely surrendered. "No shame, no blame, no name," Fourth District Supervisor Don Knabe said. "We need the public's help identifying the mother." The baby, who has a full head of black hair, is possibly Hispanic or African-American, and was wrapped in a hospital blanket, according to Detective Jennifer Valenzuela of the Special Victims Bureau. Valenzuela urged the baby's mother to come forward, emphasizing she could be a mother in trouble, and that there may be no criminal charges. "We're concerned for her well-being," Valenzuela said. "We don't know if there's mental illness or she's a young mother." If the mother isn't found, or can't care for the child, or doesn't want to, the baby will go into foster care."" http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/30/us/los-angeles-county-abandoned-baby-found-under-asphalt/ |

We need more SAFE , drop off points. * Geez..I don't know any other way to say it *
Remove the stigma & save lives. There are lots of people who would love a newborn. I am appalled that the video tape of a woman buying cloth, caring a bag, leaving the church.. Is being made public. If the press or society wants to blame & shame her.. Then bring in all the possible sperm donors and plaster their names & faces & life history .. Everywhere. What big men they are. ![]() |
