I think people are individuals and so have their own idea of what "currency" makes them feel special. It boils down to paying real attention to your love interest and finding what makes them happy not what you think is suppose to make them happy.

For some it is time, others it is money, some it is the emotional, some of it is physical, some it is something that shows personal involvement. Some people like grand gestures and others like the smaller frequent things.

I do think people tend to signal what they want but not sure always that is really clear. It does pay to ask what makes you feel special when you are developing a relationship and along the way because sometimes it does change.

I can remember when I was younger it was the romantic gift. The little candy heart necklace, teddy bear, a rose, or sappy poem or mixed tape of "our favorite" songs.

Got to the point I wanted something that looked like commitment the letter jacket, class ring, and later the engagement ring became more important. It was one of those

As busy hard working couple it was time and privacy. I remember being so impressed my hubby told his parents we were working and we had the entire weekend to ourselves to "play".

LOL When the kids came along it was Babysitters and sleeping in and long bubble baths Even if it was just at home. I much preferred a heart shaped family pizza that meant I got out of fixing another meal than a box of chocolates that made it hard to fit my work clothes.

After we were married a while the "you still got it" gift that made me feel sexy was nice. I was really wowed when he actually got the "size" right and a hotel key.

After I was widowed the gentleman that stepped up and made it clear that even as a friend I was still sweetheart material and took me and our other single pals out sealed a friendships that still last until today.

Do I hope a last great love shows up? Sure. It probably won't be about icing and roses but shared hobbies and being the guy who loves me through the loss of a BFF or sees that I don't have to stress over wearing heels but still lights up when I walk in the room.
