Three First-Graders in Alaska Allegedly Plotted to Poison Classmate
John Samuels Three first-graders in Alaska who allegedly plotted to poison and kill a classmate have been suspended from school, according to their principal. The three first-grade girls, who attend the Winterberry Charter School in Anchorage, Alaska, allegedly intended to use silica gel packs to poison the lunch of a classmate they had a feud with, according to KTVA Anchorage CBS 11, a local CBS affiliate. Silica gel packs are often used by food companies to ensure their products stay dry and moisture-free. Though silica gel packs are not actually poisonous, the three first-grade girls allegedly thought that they were, according to FOX News. Principal Shanna Mall notified parents at the Alaska charter school about the alleged plot the three first-graders concocted. On March 22, she wrote in an email that the girls reportedly got the silica gel packets “from their lunchtime seaweed.” According to a spokesperson for the Anchorage Police Department, Jennifer Castro, school administrators were notified about the alleged plot by another student who had heard about what the three girls intended to do. Castro praised the student who spoke up and told the administrators of the Alaska charter school, saying that parents should teach their kids to “tell someone who they trust right away,” if they hear about someone who plans “to do harm to someone else.” Officers from the Anchorage Police Department also spoke with two other first-graders who came forward to tell school administrators about the alleged plan. The two first-graders said that they had also heard about the alleged plot of the three girls to use silica gel packs from their lunchtime seaweed to poison a classmate. Heidi Embley, a spokeswoman for the Alaska School District (ASD), said that both school district psychologists and administrators have spoken with the three first-grade girls about the incident. They wanted to find out if the three girls understood what they allegedly had been trying to do, and had genuinely intended to harm their fellow student, or if they had just wanted to play a joke or prank. Heidi Embley said that the safety of the students in the Anchorage School District was always “top priority.” She added that the Alaska School District takes “all threats to student safety very seriously,” according to KTVA. Principal Shanna Mall asked the school resource officer to speak to the three children and their parents or guardians. Fortunately, according to CNN, nobody was harmed and there were not any criminal charges filed against the three first-grade girls. The police said that they would leave the punishment for the three girls up to the school district. Principal Shanna Mall’s email to the parents of children attending Winterberry Charter School in Anchorage, Alaska, did not outright state what punishment that the three girls would receive, but she did write that their actions would be subject to “significant consequences.” Last week, three first-grade schoolgirls who attended the Winterberry Charter School in Anchorage, Alaska, were suspended when an alleged plot that they had to poison and kill a classmate by using silica gel packets came to the attention of school administrators. Other students who heard about the plot spoke up and let administrators at the charter school know about the alleged plan. http://cdanews.com/2016/03/three-first-graders-in-alaska-allegedly-plotted-to-poison-classmate/ ![]() Three First-Graders Plot To Poison Classmate: http://youtu.be/BrzRCtpTWTA/ 01:43- Local News * This is a Charter lottery school with over 400 children waiting to get in * |
