Topic: Beware of legal or political shortcuts. | |
---|---|
Whenever times are challenging, and most people don't agree, someone always steps forward and calls for us all to take some sort of "short cut" to get the world back on track again.
Short cuts in this context are ALWAYS a dangerous mistake. In fact, much of the Constitution, as well as the operation of the Supreme Court and supporting systems, are specifically designed with the recognition that SHORTCUTS ARE BAD, in mind. We are always being offered new expedient shortcuts. Many are on the table right now. Everything from trying to force employers to raise wages, to wanting to force states to provide the expensive muscle to enforce Federal laws, are shortcuts such as I am referring to. So are laws and ideas designed to allow law enforcement to assume that PRESUMED "bad guys" can be treated differently than presumed good guys, under the law. A particular sensibility to watch out for: any time someone suggests something, and you find yourself grinning and thinking that it's a CLEVER way to get around existing legal limits to authority, you are likely to be opening the door to some VERY bad backfires. |

THAT guy. Knows it all. But does not know the difference between 'insight' and 'incite.' |
