WASHINGTON/MARIETTA, Ga. (Reuters) - Anti-abortion protesters rallied at scores of Planned Parenthood clinics on Saturday to urge Congress and President Donald Trump to strip the health services provider of federal funding, while supporters of the organization staged counter-demonstrations around the United States.

With anti-abortion groups expecting protests at up to 225 clinics, Planned Parenthood supporters organized 150 protests of their own at parks, government buildings and other sites, including clinics. At some of those clinics, the counter-demonstrators outnumbered those demanding an end to federal funding for Planned Parenthood.

All told, rallies and marches were called in 45 states in cities large and small, from Washington and Philadelphia to St. Paul, Minnesota, and Orange, California

As many as 6,000 people turned up for competing demonstrations in St. Paul, Minnesota, police said, but at other places, only a few dozen demonstrators turned out.

This reminds me of the church and religious organizations struggles with following biblical doctrine on things like abortion or homosexuality , placing children in homes that are not mother and father,,,etc,,,, tragic to lose all services over dispute of one or two,,,,


on the one hand, I wonder if clinics can remain open if they stop offering the abortion(which is only a small part of their services) or if those who want to see them stay open and offer abortions are large enough in number to make the donations to make it happen?

Very good point it's easy to say give this and give that to the govt but how will it turn out if govt says no

Will those protesters change from protesting to fundraising

If they put as much energy into fund raising as they are protesting there is a good chance they would not need govt money

No matter what they want but abortion is a good example

I am opposed to abortion, but, I also try not to be strictly emotional about it

I mean IF the clinics cant be kept open, through fundraising, what is the cost of THAT and is that just breaking your finger to avoid feeling a headache?

the clinics provide women with many important services, and as terrible as abortion is,,,leaving incapable women to have children just creates another problem that eventually will cost,,,,,rather its imprisonment, or childrens services,,,etc,,

That assumes those services can only be accessed through Planned Parenthood.

Part of the ACA (and one of many "problems" in keeping it from being immediately repealed) was mandating a minimum amount of certain services being covered by all health insurance coverage.

Most if not all services provided by Planned Parenthood are covered by insurance, as well as medicare. Therefore can be accessed through any healthcare provider.

Taxpayers/government pays for medicare. Taxpayers/government subsidizes insurance plans. Government currently mandates insurance being carried. Government mandates people under 26 (25?) can be covered by their parents insurance.

"Leaving clinics to close" is more like getting rid of a 3rd vehicle than "cutting off our nose to spite our face."

they just need to stop funding abortions with tax money

they refuse to fund religion with tax money because not all approve
of some kind of religion

put all members of religions pay taxes and most religious people are
against abortion

the govt uses the religious sector money for what they flat out
disapprove of thus you get civil uprising from those who pretend
to be religious

if they were true believers they would not be hating the people
they would be hating their actions -- there is a difference

I do not believe that the Government should be funding the clinics. Personally I am pro life on the subject.
But
I do believe that women have the right to make their own decision on this subject and they have the right to proper medical care should they decide to get a abortion. So, clinics are needed.

Nobody his the right to tell them they can or can't...because nobody is walking in their shoes
