I definitely have an opinion about this, especially since I am trained in the Reid method, which they used to interrogate Brandan Dassey. I am also certified interviewer through Wicklander-Zulawski.
I get confessions on a regular basis at work and I never use the Reid method, even though I am certified (I was forced to get Reid certified at work, we have to be both Wicklander and Reid certified) and I NEVER use the Reid method. Your just asking for a false confession using Reid, I may have used it once in the course of my 19 year career. The Reid method is more of a confrontational interview where Wicklander is a non confrontational interview and it's designed to follow the evidence unlike Reid. I am very leery of that confession. I think he might be guilty, BUT I think any case where they got a confession with the Reid method should be revisited. Many cases have been overturned because of it and you get many false confessions using the Reid method. |
